Thread: Animal Products in Preganacy Supplements!

  1. #1

Default Animal Products in Preganacy Supplements!

This is just a heads up for vegetarians, vegans and people on halal and kosher diets.
I've just been told that Elevit contains both beef and pork by-products and Blackmores has beef by-products.
I rang Bayer this morning and they just rang back to say that yes Elevit does contain pig, cow and sheep.
    I haven't contacted Blackmores.

As far as I know Fabfol is ok but I have just emailed them to be sure.

Herb Valley's Pregnavite is vegetarian and so is the Golden Glow one.

You can contact the vegetarian society if you're concerned and want more info.

Wow, that's quite unbeilievable to think that research needs to be done on something so simple - making the choice for your pregnancy multi-vitamins. I'm not a vegetarian, vegan or the like, but I think that's quite disgraceful - does it even have a clear listing on the products themselves?

No, you actually have to ring the companies - it's not even on the website.
The company called Golden Glow lists everything so it does say that it contains beeswax so a vegan can avoid it.

That's really interesting... my sis is allergic to animal protein and even though she's not planning a bub yet it good to know that she has to be on the lookout especially if it doesn't actually say anywhere on the packaging that it DOES contain those products.

I take Cenovis Pregnancy and Breastfeeding Formula, and it says on the bottle it doesn't contain a whole range of thins but doesn't specifiy animal products at all. It doesn't say on the website either.

Blackmores has fish oil so that's a dead give away

I took Thompsons which is a veggie preg multi but it didn't have iodine (great for non-fish eating people ).
