Swab results came back normal, everything looking fine, blood tests great. But I have 'gestational diabetes'. FFS.

Ugh Damn. How does that affect your hospitals VBAC policies? I take it by the way you said it that you don't believe a GD diagnoses to be the be all and end all?

they recently lowered the threshold for diagnosis of GD (so more women will be diagnosed), and it is worth doing some reading before making any decisions based just on a gd diagnsis (fak now, but can find more if you are interested)

Just frustrated with the 'talk' the Obs gave me today - previously they gave the all-clear for a VBAC because they determined the cause to be malpositioning, but today the same Ob started on some crap about how DD was a 'big' baby (at 8lb 6oz??) which is a risk factor with GD (I told them I was shocked at the diagnosis as my weight gain has been totally normal - BMI 23 when I got pregnant, and only 8kg weight gain so far at almost 28 weeks, and because I was borderline on the GTT with DD i have been quite vigilent with my diet and exercise), and then went on to say she must have been 'too big' for my body to birth, and crapping on about her long labour and my possible inability to birth babies over 8lb, and growth scans and monitoring and if my diet and exercise are fine then it's probaby gonig to need to be controled by insulin, and not wanting me to go beyond 38-39 weeks, and my brain just went "oh ****ing shut up now, we've still got 10 weeks until we cross that bridge!". But I won't stress until I see the educator on Tuesday.

what a load of crap.

i had an assisted birth with my 8lb 4 baby, and a completely hands off natural birth with my almost 11lb baby. Better positioning of baby, plus being in a supportive environment with supportive caregivers.

if only the hospitals actually practised evidence based medicine, and recognised that so many of their interventions and attitudes are actually causing the issues they are trying to prevent.

I know. The GD doesn't worry me so much, it's just the attitude of the Obs today that has me frustrated. Actually, the thing that has me the most frustrated is the fact that there is really no very accurate way of predicting a babies size, let alone whether it will 'fit', however everything they said this morning when I asked them about the impact on my VBAC centred around 'if the baby is too big for me'. Like they have already decided what is 'too big', but I *know* people are told their baby will be a certain size only to find after an induction or c/s that it was totally unnecessary because the baby is usually around 1lb smaller than 'expected'.

Ahhh how frustrating!!

Of course they have no idea how big is 'too big'. Your baby will not be too big for you to birth. They told me DD1 probably didn't get out because she was too big/I was too small. Then I had DD2 who was the same size and had a VBAC.

It's just so annoying that her size or my ability to birth was never an issue when they signed off on the VBAC 8 weeks ago. They never once insinuated that she was 'too big' or 'abnormally big' or that I may have actually had GD because she was 'big'. I tried to say that, but they just said now GD is a factor and they have to consider all things in that context. The backflip is making me so cranky!

Glad all is ok hun, have been stalking you but had no advice Just do your research and stick to your guns with regards to your VBAC and question everything - ask for studies to read etc. and nothing is foolproof - I had scans going for my VBAC at 41 +6 - he was born the next day adn I was told he would be an 'average" size and didn't look very big for the fact he was nearly 2 weeks late - he was 10 lb so they clearly have no idea and use alot of guesswork xoxox

Glad everything is fine apart from GD! Both yeasts and bacteria thrive in certain environments (and GD too) so might be wise to cut out as much sugar and wheat as you can. Get onto some great probiotics too (there are some specific ones for the vagina to help with bacterial vaginosis/thrush etc which I talk about in my article 'Thrush in Pregnancy.'

Glad the swab was ok but it's bad news about the gd. Hang in there I got my vbac with gd, I had my waters broken and that was all.
