    Contact with German Measles (Rubella)

    Hi,
I was at my nephew's 1st birthday on Sunday and yesterday I found out that one of the babies had the German Measles (they didn't know yet). I was very worried as I am 5 weeks pregnant and contacted my ob. They got back to me saying that from my blood results I am very immune. I've decided not to see my nephew for 2 weeks as this is the incubation period. He was playing with the other baby and my brother had been holding the baby. I'm not sure whether i should avoid any pregnant woman I know? Is that being over the top? I'm also still worried, so would like to know any women who have come in contact with it and then been ok. Many thanks

Thanks!!! It's funny how you can worry so much, my mind says one thing and my heart says another. I think the maternal instincts make you want to protect your baby from anything, even this early on!

If you have immunity then you and your bub should be ok. With rubella it is only infectious once the rash has appeared I think so if the baby didn't have a rash then it wouldn't have been infectious.

Hey Jan! Poor little bub with rubella if u have immunity, there should be no problem with u being around this bub. As long as you're immune u little one will be fine
