Best Pregnancy Book Reccomendations!!!

i wouldnt waste your time or money on up the duff or what to expect when expecting both are not particularly "useful" books, just fluffy pg books really. it wont really prepare you for labour and birth.

That may be true (I can't say for sure yet as I haven't been through labour) but they do give a really good insight into what is happening to you and bubs each week, which is what Bee asked for.

I second Kaz Cooke's book - I borrowed it off my SIL once and thought it was a great read. But I think the very best pregnancy book, which my mum bought for me when I was first pregnant, is Sheila Kitzinger's 'New Pregnancy and Childbirth'. It is very very good - highly recommend it!

TBH I never liked 'What to expect...' I borrowed it from the library once and wasn't that impressed. It did have all the relevant information and was very detailed etc, but I felt like I was being talked down to when I read it.

I really loved the book by Lesley Regan called "your pregnancy week by week" because i loved the photos there and seeing real life changing images.

The book is a bit pricy though (i think i paid $60). Maybe try ebay.

Bee - you should be able to get the SK book at any bookstore, like Angus and Robertson or Dymocks etc and I am pretty sure I have also seen it in Big W and Kmart - so might be worth a look, could be a lot cheaper from there. It does cost around $50 or $60 though. But you could also look on ebay or other places for second hand ones - not as up to date, but still good.

I've read Up the Duff a couple of times. I'd take reading it as more of a novel thing. It's really hilarious and quite interesting to read about Kaz Cooke's experience. It is, in no way, gospel. Even though it does have snippets of some information. I just read it and laughed all the way through. It was quite a bit of light relief from the 'seriousness' of having a baby. It's a bit of a Penny Pollard's diary through pregnancy (hope that's not too old a reference there). Borrow it from the library, I'd say - something to make you giggle.

Apart from that. I didn't read anything - I just hung around in here heaps, asked lots and lots of questions and read heaps of other people asking the same questions.

I have what to expect - good info, weird layout and felt really old fashioned.

Kaz cookes up the duff was funny but not really informative.

I bought a book about birth and pregnancy for my second pregnancy after reading a part of it from the library in my first pregnancy. I can't mention it's title as it is associated with another birth website but I found it really informative and very in depth info about labour, recovery, and things to expect in the 3 different trimesters. PM me if you want to know the name of the book.

I have 'What to expect when your expecting with What to eat when your expecting' all in one and all 'Up the duff' .

I am willing to part with 'Up the Duff' for the price of postage if you are interested, not really my kind of thing... the only thing I really used it for way the baby meausements that are listed quite clearly and very exciting first time around.

To be honest, I haven't really read any books that I would recommend, I think I am too picky .
