Can anyone else sometimes hear their heart beating in their head?

I know it sounds like an odd question, but lately I can sometimes hear my heart beating in my head/ears...like a pounding...even when I lay down to go to sleep it can be there. It does seem to happen when I get up from sitting and start moving around, or sudden bursts of activity I guess, but is not specifically linked with exercise. I am wondering if it's to do with the increased blood flow in pregnancy?

I had this as a symptom when my Graves Disease was right out of control, only it was much worse. I don't think that is the cause now however, as my thryoid levels are currently normal.

Anyway, just curious if others have experienced this as a pregnancy symptom?
    Thanks

ALL the time! I can also 'hear' the pain when I hurt my eye... LOL that one is crazy!!!!

In all seriousness, i wonder if its related to blood pressure if its not a common thing for you?

thanks ladies it is reassuring to know I am not alone and it sounds like the increased blood flow is the most likely cause...

I have been wondering about blood pressure, although I had it last checked at a clinic appointment about a week ago and it was fine.

It could be related to BP, although mines not. When my BP was 180/126 it didn't happen, but happens when BP is normal. But if you do have any other symptoms always worth having it checked out.

Anila- I have palpitations or ectopic beats all the time too. Drives me mental. It's worse when i'm sick or pregnant, but it feels like my heart is doing somersaults in my chest. Sure gives nurses a fright when they hook me up to a monitor or take my pulse.

Pulsatile tinnitus. Most people hear ringing or buzzing, some people hear their pulse. It's good to get everything checked out as you did to rule out other things but since that's all good, this is probably what it is.

Hi everyone, just wanted to update this again...just had another clinic appointment and this time actually saw an Ob ....she was concerned that the pounding head thing is continuing and hadn't heard of it as a symptom before (altho obviously reading here it certainly can be!)...anyway, because my maternal aunt died from a bleed on the brain, she wants to do a CT scan of my head just to rule out anything nasty, that could be only making itself more noticed now with my extra blood flow. I know it's just a precaution and all is probably fine, but it gave me a bit of a scare when she started talking about the possible scenarios if they did find a clot or anything...ie go in for an early c-section delivery and then surgery for me....she just rattled those things off to me, then smiled and said, right now lets listen for a heartbeat shall we? I could hear his heartbeat nice and strong but by then I was a bit distracted!
anyway, hopefully it's just double checking all possibilities and I think all is ok.
If anyone else has had to have a ct scan tho I'd love to hear from you.
    thanks :-)
