I don't know whether or not I am pregnant yet, but a couple of weeks ago before I even suspected it I took Codral for a few days during a cold, and then took Nurofen plus (with codeine) for daily headaches. After I started suspecting I might be pregnant I went back on panadol, but I took the nurofen for about 4-5 days.
You're not supposed to take either during pregnancy, but why not? What happens, or can happen?
I'm not entirely sure why your not supposed to take nurofen but i wouldn't worry about when you took it. As long as you have stopped you will be fine. I got a little drunk at a dinner a week before i knew i was pregnant, and i had a few beers a few days leading up and everythings been fine.
I know that you aren't supposed to take Nurofen because of possible foetal deformities and possible placenta bleeding but at this early stage I wouldn't worry - if you are pregnant you would have only been at the cell division stage. I did google it once and from memory it is most dangerous in the third trimester.
Codeine is safe during pregnancy so if you are in a lot of pain and paracetamol isn't working for you Panadeine is fine. Codeine can cause constipation though so make sure you keep your fluids up.
Codral - don't know the reasons behind that one, a quick google would answer that.
Thanks, but I would have been about 6 weeks along when I took the nurofen. I am more than 7 weeks now, if I am pregnant, but a test at 6 weeks was negative despite lots of symptoms, so I'm waiting for next week to do a blood test.
I really should do a home prengnancy test, I just don't trust them all that much. A few years ago I was pregnant too which ended in a m/c at 6 weeks, and the tests were negative then.
I have no idea what nurofen will do in early pregnancy I just know it can be very dangerous for bub if taken in late pregnancy. I had a few drinks before I knew I was pregnant as well. I wouldn't worry to much about it though.
