    Default Cold/Flu meds and pregnancy

A few people in my team were off sick last week at work and I hoped that I wouldnt come down with anything but I have. I stayed home today and slept for most of it. I am in bed again now with a runny nose, throbbing head and sore throat. Do I just need to put up with it? I dont want to jeopardise the health of our bub at all by taking meds but DH thinks being unwell like this isnt helping either.

Any advice to help us is greatly appreciated.

Yep, as far as I know I put up with a fair few colds in my pg, and BF life ( all up about 7yr and still going) and not been able to take anything. I think you can use a nasal spray to help clear the nose, but its only a saline one.

I was told by chemist you can take stuff to sooth your throat such as, Strepsils, soothers, butter menthols so forth, but nothing from behind the counter!

I'd stay away from nasal sprays altogether...

my sister-in-law and I have sinus problems which flare up when sick...the nose specialist told us to stay away from nasal sprays cause they can damage the nose even further...

I was booked in to have an op on my nose, but due to the fact that I'm pregnant I have to wait till bubs is 4mths old..

It's not much use now, but something you can do for next time, is have the flu vaccine. It's safe to have while pregnant. I had it while I was pregnant and it's the best thing I ever did. My daughter had flu 3 times after nad I didn't get it. I have had it again this year because it was so good.

Yep.. i was off work Thursday and Friday with the flu.. wonderful time of year it is!
Doc yesterday said the same.. water and panadol only. I know you can have certain types of Strepsils also.. the ones that dont say "Cough Lozengers" on them. They dont help that much though.
Also anything with vitamin C such as oranges, orange juice.. or honey and lemon tea is good. Unfortunately you just have to put up with it otherwise.

There are also nasal strips that you can purchase (about the only thing a woman can use when pregnant from the chemist bar throaties) which you put over the bridge of your nose and it opens the nasal passages up. If you're really blocked in the nose it can definately help - I found them useful last year. They're effectively like putting pore strips on your nose! *LOL*
