    Concern about foils during Pregnancy???

    Hi,

I have a friend who is now 16 wks pregnant with her 2nd child and she is a bit concerned about continuing having foils done at the hairdresser. She rang to ask my advice and I said I'd run it by the lovely ladies on BellyBelly (friend unfortunately does not have the internet).

She leads a natural life - doesn't drink, smoke or use drugs (even panadol) and has been told that foils are OK (chemical doesn't touch the scalp), however she is still a bit concerned that there may be something bad about having them done. Doing her hair has become 1 thing that is "her" time since having her 1st child.

I personally have chosen not to have any done during pregnancy as you can still inhale the fumes and why expose yourself to a chemical if you have to. But I am a bit more extreme than others (no caffeine, alcohol, drugs, all organic living, no cleaning chemicals etc). But I've reassured her that it's ultimately her decision and to do what she feels comfortable with.

    What do you ladies think?

NO WAY! - have the foils.
Nothing worse than bad hair when you are feeling fat...

It's meant to be perfectly safe.

I had them all though my pregnancy - as long as the dye doesnt touch the scalp she should be fine. Just make sure room is well ventilated etc. one hairdresser I went to recently had a nail tech there and it was really smelly

I was told it was perfectly safe to dye hair during pregnancy. I go to a hairdresser to hae it done though, they say its fine. But preferably during the second trimester.

No evidence to suggest any ill effects on baby, I have had foils, streaks and semi's throughout all three pregnancies and no problems.

I agree cant have bad hair when feeling fat.

the only reason some people say not to do it is because when ur preg the dif chemicals in ur body can make ur hair go a dif colour then it is ment to that is y if ur gonna get it done go to a hair dresser so u dont turn out with purple or orange hair. but it is only a slight chance this will happen

I have my hair coloured (foils) and have done all the way through both pregnancies. I'm with Lulu2, you just can't have bad hair when you're fat. I always make sure I have pedicures and manicures too, it's nice to feel nice....

I thought I might bump this thread up if anyone else is wondering about this.

I`ve been wanting to get foils in my hair for months but I`ve been paranoid about it, last week I very nearly rang the hairdresser to make an appointment but didn`t as I`m still feeling paranoid.

So once I`m over my paranoia I`ll make an appointment but how do I get over it....

Oh hun, if you really do feel scared about doing it, then don't. But I coloured my hair and had foils about 3 times during my pregnancy after 12 weeks gestation.

Voice your concern's to your HD, they might have other suggestions.

Hi, one of my best friends is a hairdresser and she recommends foils to anyone who is concerned about getting a colour because they don't touch the scalp, she said that there is no risk through inhaling the smell of the colour because otherwise all pregnant hairdressers would have to give up work for 9 months and she worked right through both of her pregnancies safely

    Hi Ladies,

In the letter my ob sent out when i rang and booked in, there were some notes about things and one was colouring of hair, he said there was no need to stop colouring hair as there is nothing to suggest there being an issues or harm caused by it. I guess my only thought would be the fumes - but generally that isn't much at all these days, so i'm happy to say I had mine done 2 wks ago
