    Question Could i be pregnant at 43 ??? ...

    Hi all,

I know seems a bit odd me about here ... and maybe i ' should ' know the answer to the proposed question but in all honesty i thought i would ask for your opinions & PLEASE don't feel you have to answer YES

A little bit of my story ; DP & i conceived naturally after 2.5years of trying with our DD (now almost 3.5yrs old) when i was 39 (gave birth at 40) ... we started TTC as soon as she was 1 year old & did so until this July which would make it just over 2years of TTC#2 ... DP & i then this July/Aug decided it ' might ' be time to hang up our TTC#2 boots so to speak and come more to terms that our beautiful DD will have no siblings & that she will be just super fine in life being an only child ...

As much as i THOUGHT i was coming to terms with this decision with no longer TTC#2 and that it was all starting to fall into place & i was beginning to feel ok with it all ... strangely enough the past week i become insanely clucky & beginning to yearn to be pregnant again & wanting to eat the things i craved when pregnant with DD & what i can't work out is my boobs have been just killing me the past couple of days, extremely sore which i don't get until a few days before my period is due ... BUT the thing that doesn't make sense is that i would be more than likely ovulating (i'm guessng right now) as my period isn't due for another 11days away (and the past few months my cycle is longer which would make it more like it's due about 14days away ... i have NEVER had sore boobs around ovulating time

I'm thinking maybe it's my body going through a change or something like that (always a first for everything) as i do turn 44 this coming Jan

DP reckons i'm pregnant ... and he was right the last time when pregnant with DD (i was more in denial as i didn't want to set myself up for another heartache) ...

I'm curious to hear all of your opinions too & like i mentioned before it doesn't bother me either way if i was so hopefully i won't sway you into a decision IYKWIM )

So, What DO you think ... YES, NO or MAYBE (or are you secretly hoping, LOL)

    Well it's always possible!

After 38 it's more common for women to ovulate and release more than one ovum. This produces a higher than usual progesterone level. The symptoms of early pregnancy (sore breasts, increased vaginal secretions, hunger, nausea etc etc) are largely thought to be caused by the rising progesterone level... This is why often women "feel" pregnant in the TWW only to find they are not. The progesterone causes the symptoms.

You know your body. Go inside it and really feel for the answer. Take a test! It would be a beautiful surprise for you I know. I have my fingers crossed!

I'll say 'Absolutely Not' so that it's a win win situation for me. I'll either be right, OR I'll be really really pleased for you.
Our bodies are crazy things, I barely understand where mine is at, so I'm not going to take a stab at a serious answer for you. But all the best figuring it out.

Smiles - You know I never used to get sore BB's whether I was pgnt or not, then when I started TTC back in 2007, I started getting the sore BB and even when I fell pg. Then I feel pg with V and got the sore BB's too.
Now I still get the sore BB's for about a week before AF decides to come. I also get the nausea too, which has me thinking gee wouldnt it be nice if a got a surprise BFP, but it hasnt happened especially considering Dh is being very careful for it not to happen again.
Good luck hun, I would probably say it may not be a BFP, but gee I hope and that it is for you sweety. I have my for you. I think it would be just wonderful for you to get this surprise BFP. hugs

Well it would be a lovely surprise for you so I hope the answer is yes!!!

I've been having a little hormonal crisis here myself the last month and more. Somethings up with me and I've come to the conclusion it's hormonal, the tip off was the sore boobies (which I NEVER get). The thing that confuses me is I"ve had the Mirena in for 16months now and that's a constant release of hormone....I can't think what's suddenly changed?!! I was thinking I was pg too (and I was excited with DH cr@pping himself) but I've since had two neg POAS and the sore bb's disappeared in the week.

Sorry for my crash....but I just wanted to share my hormone/body/reproductives are doing weird ***** too....it's freaking me out!!!

    All the best hun!

Of course you could be. If you are still ovulating you could get pregnant. Some women lose their fertility far earlier than others do. You've already "proved" yourself capable of having a baby later than most do, so it's entirely possible.

If you cycle has been a bit different then it is also possible that you could be having a shorter cycle as well as longer ones.

I too have found my cycle is changing - but mine is going shorter. I recently had a 20 day cycle which I've never experienced in my life (I'm 43). Perhaps you are experiencing a shorter cycle too which of course would mean you have already O'd & could be pregnant.

Some doctors are all doom & gloom about older mums. The first OB I saw at 41 told me I'd be in bed from 30 weeks as I was bound to need bed rest from all the complications I'd get. I switched OBs & the new one treated me just the same as the young ladies as he didn't believe I was at that much higher risk (apart from abnormalities of course). I didn't get any pregnancy complications at all (just slight birth ones) & worked full time right up to 37 weeks. I found it interesting that it was the female OB that was negative. I would never have expected that.

Anyway, I've rambled on enough. Good luck with it all. I hope you get the result you want.

Becstar ... thanks heaps for sharing, so great to know i have a BB pal to ' feel ' weird with, LOL ... yeh, the two OB's i saw were both men ... looked at me like i was some criminal for having my 1st born bub at 40, also they kept verbally reminding me of what age i was (like i had forgotten) ... Well, my two beautiful midwives that saw me all through my entire pregnancy were cheering for me ... My pregnancy was just amazing, i drove everyone insane as i loved being preg so much, infact i told the midwives when i was 38weeks when standing in queue waiting for my appt that i wish i had two more months, needless to say the preg woman standing around me heard what i said & looked at me like i must be nuts.

All i had was HBP (due to being an older expectant Mum) & that was it ... i went onto have a drug-free vag birth (i only went 2days overdue). My midwives treated me like some goddess on the maternity wing, was very funny

Satya ... sorry to say BUT it's soooo NICE to know i'm not the only 43year old on the BB block, harr harr ... (lets not tell everyone being in ya 40's sux, let 'em all find out for themelves ... So, frustrating having a heart like a 20something & the inside body works of a 40year old woman, LOL i've gotta laugh or i will start crying)

Trish ... that's so kind & sweet, i wuvz you too

... i myself have been seeing a single Magpie each day since my SIL's death which i googled means " 1 magpie for sorrow ", BUT yet i haven't seen a magpie since the day i put on this thread !!

... UPDATE ; ... i started spotting since last Thurs with severe cramps & boobies still very sore and then AF arrived yesterday, as all arrived early i spoke with my GP today when having biopsy done and the earliest i could book in with her was in 3wks times (also find out early next week if melanoma or not with biopsy)

So sorry everyone no great news here ... BUT it was a BEAUTIFUL feeling of HOPE to have even though it was for a little while and it's clear to me now the last time i will EVER experience it ... i feel so sad & incredibly flat as it felt like i had a last chance there but it wasn't meant to be

Just hope my little sweet 3.5year old DD " Miss C " will be proud of me one day that i tried for such a long time since she was 14mths old ... and that i still shone some light of hope even at nearly 44years of age !!!

... HEARTFELT THANKS to ' those ' who were hopeful along side me, that was just the loviest xox
