A couple of questions for anyone who has been pregnant...

One of my closest girlfriends has just announced her pregnancy She already has 2 kids, and she doesn't feel there's any point to having a baby shower. Just this morning I was thinking about throwing her a surprise blessingway type thing, except we'd all go away for a night or two instead of just being a day.

The questions are:

At what point does pregnancy become more uncomfortable than anything? I don't want her to be uncomfortable the whole time she's there, so I'm trying to figure out when I should plan it for.

Do you think it would be a good idea? Most of the other girls all have kids as well, so I thought they might enjoy getting away and just being able to focus on her, even if it's only for 1 night.

Would YOU go if you were invited to it?

I think it's a lovely idea. If you do go away, make sure it's somewhere with a comfy bed with lots of pillows. And it shouldn't be a long car trip.

The uncomfortableness is different for different women/pregnancies. My SPD kicked in at 21 weeks, after which I could barely walk and everything had to be planned in terms of steps/slopes/difficulty getting in and out of things. Very frustrating. Some other women seem fine right up until bub arrives, though fatigue usually kicks in about 31-35 weeks. Generally you're advised not to go too far after 36 weeks.

for me, the best time was after my 19week scan, so around 20ish weeks, i was feeling great energetic and excited. I think this period is known as the honeymoon period? LOL

After around 37ish i got more tired.

BTW, its a great idea i think, but might be a bit hard to leave the 2 kiddies at home? I know I dont think DH can look after DD for 2 days (but thats just me)

For me, I felt the best between about 16wks-30wks. Before that I was sooo tired and has m/s. After it, I was again really tired and with your belly getting a fair bit bigger then,things are getting hard physically. This pg has been hard though because I have had issues with my back and pelvis so if she has any issues like that, I would ask her what she thinks. It can be a really personal thing. Everyone is different in pg!

As for when it becomes uncomfortable - well that depends on if she is suffering anything like SPD during the pregnancy, cos then she'd be uncomfortable from that time forward... I had it from about 28 weeks with DD1, but 4 weeks with DD2 - and don't have it at 27 weeks during this pregnancy. Plus if she's got morning sickness, she might not feel up to anything (not that I have anything to compare it to, cos I don't get morning sickness!)

Just depends on how her body copes with pregnancy really - she might be one of the extremely lucky ones and just glows the whole way through

Oh - and yes, I would go if my DH was able to watch the other kids for me with no problems

I'd ask around at the other friends first and see if they would be interested? Be able to leave the kids with someone for a few days? Could they afford it? those type of things

What a lovely thought! I hope you all go & have a lovely time...

I probably wouldn't go away for a couple of nights though, maybe just the one. Leaving the kids at home is kinda a big ask especially with more than one & I would miss them terribly! So I'd check with your friend to see if that's what she wanted before you organise everything.

Oh yeah, I'm awesome She reckons SPD will hit her fairly early, it generally hits her around 20 weeks but she says she weighs the most she ever has. Hers is uncomfortable but not unworkable, knowing her she'd say she'd rather be uncomfortable on holiday than uncomfortable at home! And they don't mind leaving the kids for a night, all the dads are really good and will probably get together at one of their own houses and have a sleepover for the kids.

Yeah, one night is probably better than 2. Or maybe the dads can join us for the second night....shall email the girls and see what they think.

I'm the heaviest I've ever been and this is the best my pelvis has ever felt - so you can tell her that for some hope..

First pregnancy I was great until around 36 weeks! M/s was annoying until about 14 weeks then reflux kicked in and food became an issue.
This pregnancy I'm lighter, and was best around 12-18 weeks, in between m/s and SPD.

I'd say everyone deserves a little spoiling, you can just do it for her being a wonderful person without the "baby shower" tag. But I've never had a baby shower, so I'm prolly prejudiced by that.
