Diaper Bag - Do I need to give up my handbag?!

    Ladies ..

I've just started researching which diaper bag will be the most appropriate for me.
I realise this will sounds like a silly question, but here it goes - Question is....

Do I need to give up my handbag?? Seems kind of silly carrying around 2 bags??

I still use both, for me I would find it hard using the one bag. If I want to pop out to the shops etc by myself I don't want to carry a bag that looks like a nappy bag and I also don't want to carry around all the things I need if I am out by myself, just have to think what will work best for you

You can keep you handbags for when you are out on your own and there are plenty of nappy bags that just look like oversized handbags. I have a Storksak Julie which I don't think looks like a nappy bag at all, I love it

I have my eye on the Storksak Elizabeth haha I am nappy bag obsessed!

I have 3 bags these days.

My regular handbag for use when I'm at work or for rare times that my son is in daycare & I'm out and about without him.

Daycare bag - this is the original nappy bag I bought - decent size which can fit lots of nappies, changes of clothes, bottles etc in it.

Small nappy bag - for my days off & weekends. I only was able to start using this when my son got older & didn't need to cart as many changes & bottles etc. I put my purse in it & off we go. It hangs off the stroller & off we go.

I have the storksak Julie as well, I love it! So nice to have a nappy bag that doesnt look like a nappy bag. It comes with a thermo-insulated bottle holder and a padded changing mat.

Storksak have some great sales, so worth keeping an eye out for them! I picked mine up for $175 in their last sale online.

I still have my regular handbag, if I need to go somewhere without bubs.. but that is rare anyway.

I got a gorgeous red leather OiOi nappy bag which I love! I've always had an oversized handbag and just knew there was no way I would be able to carry both. Now I have a tiny little clutch bag. I've ditched my wallet (which I hated doing but just needed to) for a coin purse that fits the cards I use every day and some money in it. The little clutch is about the size of a wallet, but I get my coin purse, keys and mobile in it easily. Then I can just chuck it in the nappy bag or if I'm not taking the nappy bag I can easily hang the clutch on the pram handle.

I'm yet to go out by myself, but when I do I imagine I'll just dust off my handbag and use it.

I have only ever taken one bag. Nappy bag when DS was younger, and then a big, oversized handbag-type bag once he was a bit older. You still need to take heaps of crap with you when they're toddlers LOL! I still have handbags for when I go out without him, but there's no way I'd be taking two bags out all the time, that would be a PITA for me.

There are heaps of nice, non-nappy bag looking nappy bags around. To begin with, I just used an old satchel style bag, that had heaps of pockets, but I got a lovely Petunia Pickle Bottom nappy bag for xmas - its a lot smaller than the one I used to use, so I had to streamline what I took out - in doing that, I found I used to take lots of stuff that I never needed. I'm looking around for a nice bigger one, that's good for a toddler and baby - I've seen an OiOi one that I like so just have to ask nicely and see if Santa is good to me

I haven't used a handbag since ds was born. Splurge on a huge, funky nappy bag- you will definately get your money's worth. I have a Shanghai Mommy Bag and I love it- I've just upgraded to an even bigger one for when dd comes along and I have twice the crap to cart around.

My current nappy bag has 2 parts - a small little backpack and a larger one (they zip together if I needed to, but have never used it this way). If I use the smaller one I don't bother with my handbag (this is for quick trips down the road) I just put my purse in the bag as well. But if I'm going to be out for a couple of hours I take the bigger bag, then I usually then take a little tote type bag for the purse and lippy and brush so I don't have to be digging around in the big nappy bag trying to find them.

If you google "Pebbles Pouchmiss" you can see something that converts a handbag to a nappy bag Basically it's an insert thing so you put all of your baby stuff in there, then put that into your handbag. When bub isn't with you, just take the insert out. I bought one at an open day last week & it's pretty cool.
