My current nappy bag has 2 parts - a small little backpack and a larger one (they zip together if I needed to, but have never used it this way). If I use the smaller one I don't bother with my handbag (this is for quick trips down the road) I just put my purse in the bag as well. But if I'm going to be out for a couple of hours I take the bigger bag, then I usually then take a little tote type bag for the purse and lippy and brush so I don't have to be digging around in the big nappy bag trying to find them.

Basically it's an insert thing so you put all of your baby stuff in there, then put that into your handbag. When bub isn't with you, just take the insert out. I bought one at an open day last week & it's pretty cool.
