I haven't had any alcohol since NYE 2006. Since then I have been pregnant and/or BF and I choose not to. Not that I was a big drinker before anyway so it doesn't really make a difference to me.

    Thanks everyone

I've never felt any pressure. If i say i don't want anything everyone around me says ok. If i say i feel like a drink they say ok. I've never felt bad either way.

i haven't either...actually, i may have licked the sugar off a glass of DP's frozen martini when i was PG with DS, but that's it!

when i booked in to hospital this time there was someone from the murdoch children's research institute there & she asked me if i'd like to participate in a survey they're doing about women drinking during PG. i said yes because as she explained it, there's never been an in depth study to see if it has any impact & i figure why not. i've had to complete a survey in both the 1st & 2nd tri & did a DNA swab (inside of the mouth). i have another survey to do at around 36 weeks & then they offer some 3D photos (or something - can't remember) when baby is 1 & then a full developmental review at 2yrs (both of these are optional). sorry, bit off topic but thought it was interesting to hear that someone was doing research in the area

With DD1 (unplanned) we found out at the end of a group holiday in NZ, I had been drinking every day, pub lunches, winery tours, liqueur factories ect.. i stopped after realising i was preg of course, and then had nothing till 1/2 glass of champers at new year when i was 40w.
With DD2, i craved beer, so i used to pinch the first sip out of DHs now and again (maybe once a week), I ended up tracking down Alc-free beer to drink my self.
    This time round.. nothing yet..

No, not really. I craved wine something chronic in my second pregnancy and I had one sip of my H's glass once.

Nope - can't stand the smell of beer atm, and much as I love my red wine (and the smell of it), having an IVF pregnancy means I don't want to do anything to risk it. It's only a little break in my life so I figure it's worth it.

Very interesting to read Sloane about the study and I think is great that you are participating - as the 'no alcohol' thing from what I have read is all about the fact there have not been any studies done on the impact of very low levels of alcohol during pregnancy so it is easier to say not to have any at all (is like a lot of drugs/pharmacy products etc there hasn't been enough studies to say it is safe to have so they just state not to be used during pregnancy).

I have had the odd half glass of wine or odd half a beer (so half a pot/midi etc) during both pregnancies, and do the same now breastfeeding (so maybe once a week but did depend on stage of pregnancy - e.g. I probably didn't have any in first tri and more likely to have had the odd drink towards the end - with breastfeeding probably didn't have any in first 6 weeks or so, and now if have one will be when I have a big gap in feeds). As there is no real research on low levels of drinking my personal choice is based on the anecdotal evidence surrounding me where people have drunk in very low levels during pregnancy and the fact I acknowledge there is a level of risk with everything we do and judge what is my own acceptable risk level. I pretty much apply the "a little bit of what you fancy always does you good" rule to most things.

When I got a BFN at the beginning of this pregnancy I was really disappointed and gave myself a girlie night to make myself feel better lol - I had a bottle of white wine (about 4 standard drinks) that I'd been given months earlier as a gift and a block of chocolate while I watched notting hill

Then a week later I got a BFP and felt really guilty!! I haven't had a drop since - although I've missed it when I'm cooking dinner.

I didn't drink at all with DD during pregnancy or BF.

I figure it's really such a short time - I don't mind avoiding it. I'd rather avoid it mainly because I don't know for sure that it's ok.

Sloane, Im in the same study but at the Womens....(acqa or something like that)

I don't drink but funnily I craved Baileys throughout most of my pregnancy with DD. I never had it though but as soon as I had her the craving went away.
I haven't had any with this pregnancy.

My DH and his whole family enjoy a drink most nights and he thinks I'm being silly for not wanting to drink (anytime not just when pregnant) but I never really got into it and don't see why I should force myself to drink when I don't enjoy it. I just ignore them now and do my own thing. My MIL used to make a big deal about buying 'coke zero' especially for me when we went to stay at their place (1.25lt drunk over two weeks).....apparently that's worse than alcohol in their mind!

yeah occasionaly i'd have 1 glass of wine

ds1 i actually had my hens day and was pregnant but didnt know it yet, i think i had the biggest day of my life and drank lots, boy was i worried when i found out i was UTD 2 days late (and 10 days before the wedding) so on the wedding day i had a glass of half champaigne and half orange juice (also cause none of the guests new we were pg)

ds2 - my ob said it was ok to even have 1 glass a day.... i didnt but if we went out or something occaisonally i'd have a glass

ds3 - because of morning sickness i definatley didnt even feel like a glass.... then second trimester there have been a few times (NYE, australia day type celebrations) but i have bad reflux and as soon as i take a sip of wine the reflux sets in so not worth it.

    With DD1, no.

With DD2 I got pretty blind for my 23rd birthday. 2 days later I found out i was pregnant. Though in my defence, i tested the morning of my bday party and it didnt come up so decided to drown my sorrows...
