    Excercise During Pregnancy

    Hi All,

I hope I've posted this in the right area.

I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions about exercise to keep fitness up / excess weight down during pg.

I've been finding that walking / running for long distances is out because I'm getting really light headed (is that normal or is it just me??)

I thought water aerobics might be good - but my local YMCA has said they won't let me because it's a heated pool ?!?!?!

If anyone has any suggestions that would be great.

    TIA

    Hey Dee,

I've heard walking is good but obviously not so if you're getting light-headed!! (Don't panic - I've been getting that a bit too).

Can you talk to your YMCA about any pregnancy programs they have? Alternatively, try the council - I know that in the city (I'm in Melbourne too) they have special pregnancy yoga and water aerobics classes, which you can start from about 16 weeks. I'm going to look into that soon.

Maybe even see if there's a Curves or Contours near you and ask if they have any pregnancy specialists.

I think anything is ok as long as it gets your heart rate up, but your heart rate can't rise above a certain level or it puts the baby at risk. Same goes for temperature, which might be why your YMCA doesn't think the heated pool would be good.

    HTH!

I go to a gym near home that has a heated pool especially for water classes. I have been cleared by Dr to do these water classes and the heated pool is only heated at about 30 degrees at the most and I am only in it for an hour tops so its no harm at all. I also try and walk on the tread mill as well but only slow and for about 30 - 45 minutes. I have been a bit slack for a few weeks now cause I got the flu and this week I got stuck in traffic and missed my class. Bummer! But would like to get back into it again a couple of times a week next week.
Its also very relaxing. But I am yet to find any pregnancy specific classes in South West Sydney either. They just don't seem to be widely available. Which is a shame cause I would like to be around other pregnant woman at the moment.

Fit to Deliver is a specifically designed program for pre-natal women by a physiotherapist so the exercises keep in mind everything you will need being pregnant.
