First Ob Appt??

Hi,

Have my first ob appt tomorrow @ 10wks. nt scan booked for 12wks

just wondering what to expect tomorrow?

Haaa not much of an idea here Lily, still not seen an ob, and this is my second pregnancy! (midwife care so far, though I'm supposed to see a dr this pregnancy for a checkup..)

I'd say they might just ask questions about your history to determine any factors that might potentially create complications in pregnancy...eg, if they know there's a history of depression or diabetes, they'll watch more closely for that. And maybe blood tests, if you haven't had any already, to check iron levels, rubella immunity...and other things I can't remember!

I think that's about it, hopefully someone else will pop in with something more concrete! And welcome to Bellybelly, haven't seen you around before!

I didn't have much happen at mine. I went early because of my history. She gave me referrals for a dating scan and a NT scan. I didn't use the dating one as my GP ended up giving me a referral to a place I could get into way quicker. She gave me a referral for a lot of blood tests and told me to have them done 10-11 weeks. I didn't use the BT one cos my GP sent me for all the tests just after I saw the OB. She took my blood pressure, felt my tummy took a little bit of history and that was about it. She then told me to find a doctor that worked from the hospital I want to give birth at (as my original GP referred me to an OB who only works from two small hospitals that were not even near my home). So for me it was mostly a waste of time except for geting the referral for the NT scan. It was a shame because I really liked her. Hope your experience is better. I'm looking forward to my appointment at 14weeks with my new OB.

Hi,

My first OB appt was not hugely exciting. My OB just checked how I was doing with M/S etc. She also did a quick U/S just to check on things. I also had a few questions that I fired at her.

She also referred me for my NT scan and BT.

My ob checked b/p, asked general questions on how I was feeling, did a quick u/s to check bub's heart beat and measurements, gave me referal for n/t scan. My ob had my history as I'd been seeing her on a very regular basis while ttc.

I went to a gp for a referal to an ob as i was going private, the dr gave me a pathology list for bloods and urine but I saw my ob within a week and he ordered the same tests, asked about history, last period, pregnancies etc, got weighed, bp, ordered a dating scan discussed tests for downs etc, checked my belly. His secretary booked me into the hospital when I first rang and made the appointment... umm recomended pre natal vitamins,.... I think that's it, and I saw him again every 4 weeks, until 30weeks when I went to fourtnightly visits after xmas I'll be going weekly till birth.

Lily - how did the appt go?

I asked the same Q before my 1st ob appt I had mine at 10 weeks where she basically just asked me about my health and my health history (where I talked about my endo and laparoscopy). She then gave me a referral to have the 12 week scan done and that was about it. She didn't even examine me physically as she was happy with everything (I took in copies of all my previous endo surgery notes and previous scans). I went back at 14 weeks and don't go back again until 22 weeks (end of Jan).
