    Heartburn!

So this is bub #4, and yes, every pregnancy I've suffered severe heartburn. I'm 16 weeks and have been on ranitidine for 3 weeks already! So even though I've been through this a few times, I'm still always on the lookout for new remedy ideas!

Basically it's not affected adversely if I have spicy food, fatty food or anything in particular. It's always the same, so cutting out foods doesn't work. I've found in the past drinking icy cold spearmint flavoured milk soothes enough for me to fall asleep lol, but it can get rather expensive.

Has anyone else had success with any other remedy??

Drinking milk actually makes it worse as converted to acid after drinking even though gives short term relief.

I have got it bad this pregnancy I find mixing a teaspoon of bicarb soda with a little bit of juice and mixing until it starts frothing/bubbling and drink quickly straight away helps.

    Heartburn!

Gaviscon. It simultaneously neutralizes the acid & forms a gluggy layer to stop the tummy juices rising up the oesophagus. Theres a double strenth one too. It may take a few data of use for the irritation & soreness to die down so hang in there. If you're still suffering after that, chat to your dr as there are other medications available that are more effective.

Other measures include sleeping propped up (if you can borrow a recliner chair they are brilliant).

Honestly, I too had it severely first pg, and sorry to say back then found nothing that worked. I did gaviscon, tums, milk, mylanta, and sitting up. I was even on esomeprazole. I was on liquid diet, as any food made me have bad reflux.

I started a new medication after that pregnancy, and am still on it. This pg is so much better, as 1st I had reflux as soon as ms stopped til baby was out. With this pg, only when I eat too much or baby is squishing tummy. I am now on pariet. So maybe talk to your dr about a different medication. Totally worth it, if it makes you more comfortable.

Aw Melster, you have it worse than me for sure! I've changed the times I take my ranitidine tablets and it seems to be working, although garlic bread sets it off no matter what lol.

    Thanks all x

Yes, have suffered and still suffer from heartburn on and off. Most of the tips I've got, have already been mentioned, but can't hurt to mention again.
Eating small amounts, don't drink when you eat dinner/lunch or breakfast, or only a little bit. Sit up for at least 2 hours after dinner. I try to drink as much as possible during the day (about 3 litres, spread out over the day), so I can stop drinking around 6pm, which helped me. As mentioned before don't have food that's too fatty. Also if it could be bub pressing against your stomach, or being in a certain position, try and pat the bump in a different spot, so baby moves away or changes position, this has helped me on several occasions..

This may be a little late but hopefully it helps others. Heartburn can range from mild to severe and depending on how bad it is will determine whats best for relief. Info comes from Heartburn Relief. Tums and antacids do not stop hearburn from happening but react with acid to nuetralize acid. This is good for very mild heartburn that occurs rare. Prilosec stops the stomach from producing acid and is better when symptoms happen more often. They recommed Prilosec over other similar medications. More info about Prilosec vs Pepcid. I have had bad heartburn the past ten years and very few things help me. Tums is useless to me because it takes 4 antacids to provide relief that only lasts an hour before it gets bad again. I needed something that stopped the stomach from over producing acid.
