Help! Possible breech bub at 36 1/2 wks and trace protiens in urine...?
Ok so I just had my weekly antenatal appt with my GP and he's told me that I have trace protein in my urine which I also had last week and also that bub is possibly breech or at least transverse. Bub must have only recently turned into this position because all movement I was feeling yesterday and even this morning I think (though I hadn't taken alot of notice) was indicating he was still head down, which is where he has been for at least 4ish weeks. Though taking notice of movements since I went to the docs, I can tell he's moved, though I would have assumed he was posterior or towards my right side, rather than my left. So what I would like to know is...
What are the implications of the trace protien in my urine? I knwo one is pre eclampsia, and I am aware of some of the symptoms (pitting odeoma, headaches, dizzyness) I do have swelling in my hands and feet, though nothing unusual for me, I have had it in each pg previously and nothing came of it and it gets worse in hot weather and it has and will be really hot here for the next fwe days/weeks. Is there other things I should look for?
And what can I do about baby being breech? I am almost 37wks pg, so I am a bit worried he won't turn back if he is breech.
Another of my issues is that I am in a remote community with no maternity section in our little hospy. The GP told me there are two midwives here which is great considering nothing goes worng with me or bub, but if I need to go to a bigger hospy, I would be airlifted to Dubbo (3hr drive away), or even Sydney depending on the issues.
I think I am just worrying over nothing, but I am starting to get anxious about birth. We will be going to Sydney in a week (next Sunday) for me to give birth there (my family is there and i had my other children at the same hospy I will birth in, all going to plan!). But with bubs so close to coming and me starting to have a little pre labour, I am getting antsy!!
I don't know about the urine stuff lovely, but you definitely still have time for baby to turn. Look at the spinning babies site, some of the stuff on there worked for me when Eden was breech.
Not sure on the protein, sorry I can't ease your mind there Just be aware of how you are feeling and your body and ring if something doesn't feel right.
I had a friend used Moxa sticks successfully to turn baby. Another thing is do you have a Chiro or Osteo with experience in turning a baby in your nearest town?
I have read a few birth stories here on BB with women birthing breach babies, and only recently went to birthday party where a mum birthed her breach baby with no complications.
I had a look at the spinning babies and some other sites about turning breech bubs. I am totally confused as to what positions bubs is in. I have tried to have a feel and see for myself. I am not totally convinced he's breech. I wish I could go to a mdwife or OB and have them check!! (Ahh, the joys of remote living!) I can do some of the things to try to turn bub, and even if he isn't breech, it won't hurt to do any of it anyway. Except for the heart burn/reflux, but hey I can deal with that!
I am just really worried about a C/S being pushed onto me. I am terrified of having one, plus after bubs is born, we need to travel back home...9hours in a car with a newborn and two children after a C/S...well I seriously doubt that will be very pleasant!! Even with DH with me. In a way I think it's probably a good thing I won't be going to the antenatal clinic at the hospital until I'm 38wks for my next check up...then they can't pressure me for that long, lol! Plus it gives bub time to get into the right spot. But it worries me too that I am only being checked by a GP who isn't necessarily an 'expert' in all things pg and baby related....my god I'm going to send myself batty!
Urgh that must be awful. Have you felt down low in your pelvis? My midwife showed DH how to check if the head was down, feel around for something hard, and then try to flick it between your fingers which were spread apart about 10ish-cms. Apparently butts don't flick back and forth like heads do?
Mel, I have tried to feel the head like that. But I just can't get hold of it properly. Maybe that means it's not the head...I just think it means I'm fat and my arms are short and I can't reach it, lol! I read that the head will be like you say hard and move from side to side easily, and the butt would be soft and squidgy and not move so freely. I will get DH to try to see what he can feel tomorrow.
I have just been laying on the lounge with my butt on pillows. Not terribly comfy, 'specially with my back/hips being dodgy and I have really terrible heart burn now...but I'd rather endure some discomfort now than have a C/S. I'm so terrified of having one.
angela, thanks hun. I have read it could just be my body working that bit harder than normal cause I'm pg. I'm hoping that's it and I'm being a total hypochondriac. My GP was very dismissive of it too. I was just worried since I've had it for 2 weeks, plus I have swollen feet. But the swellings not unusual for me.
Kel. I hope bubs moves for you. Sounds like he still has space to move around if he's switching positions, so there's no reason he couldn't move back to where you want him. GL!
I have had 3 breach bubs right up to 38/39 weeks.. and they all did turn!
At that angle it sounds like bub could be on the way to transverse, and then head down..... hopefully!!!
One thing you could try is frozen veg bags.... alternate between putting it where bubs head is and where bubs butt is.... it seems bub is heading down the left side, so put the cold pack against the right side of bubs head, to encourage him to move further to the left... bubs butt is coming up the right, so put the frozen pack on bubs left side of his butt, to keep him coming up the right side.....
Bub will usually move away from the cold... doing this while in a sloping possy will help too.....
I hope that made sense, I know what I mean....
I did half handstands in the shower to get Eden to turn, and it worked - so you could try that. its free and its not that hard to do (like you put your hands on the ground with your butt in the air and feet on the ground and hope to god nobody walks in with you like that.. LOL)
Well, now I think I feel him hiccupping down on my left hip.....I thought I felt leg-ish type movements on my right side this morning but wasn't sure cause I was half asleep.....This kids is already making me crazy!!! Arrghhh!!!
Wow Kellie!! Your situation is giving me serious goosebumps!! Good luck with everything, I will be thinking of you and hoping you get the birth that you want.
Hiccups down on your hips sounds very positive!
lilias if your in Dubbo anytime soon why don't you pop into the labour ward there and get a scan done for piece of mind! They have a mobile one which most midwives are skilled in using. To my Knowledge Cobar actually doesn't have a midwife (they have a child and family health nurse who isn't a midwife and 1 retired midwife who probably hasn't seen a baby born in 30years the rest are all RN's) If bub does decide to come and your not able to make it out of town then don't worry. Your body can do this and will do it the way its suppose to and cnaces are bub will come out head first.
The protein I wouldn't worry about. In small amounts its quite normal especially if its not on the increase and not accompanied by other signs of pre-eclampsia.
