Unhappy I'm getting a cold/flu... how can I feel better?? 28 weeks pg

Oooohhhh!! It sucks being sick when pregnant because I can't take anything

Today I woke up with a headache and slightly dry throat and thought "oh no..." went to work and gradually started feeling crappier and crappier.....

Got some Vit C powder from the chemist, bought some oranges and other fruit and came home had a hot shower and put on my socks and went to bed..... I feel CR@P

My throat is really hurting now..... can anyone recommend what they do when sick with the cold or flu and pregnant? I don't want to eat my dinner because it hurts when i swallow!!

Are there any hot lemon drinks I can take? This is the first time i"ve been sick while pregnant and not able to take anything for it
I'm not normally a sook when sick because I know i can take anything but as i'm pregnant I can't!! Grrrr hate being sick.

    Poor chicken....
I was sick with the wog going round all weekend all I did was drink honey and lemon in boiling water, lots of fresh orange juice and slept.....

I don't know of anything else although a couple of my friends drink those lemsip sachets when they are pregnant and sick.

I hope you feel better soon!

    chicken soup!!!
strepsils (check with the chemist - most are pg safe - including the throat numbing ones!)
    panadol/panadeine are fine
lemon/honey and hot water (or warmed lemonade - can't remember how to make it though!)
fresh fruit is better than juice, but might be a bit ouchie
fruit smoothies (with yoghurt) for the nutrients

    Sorry ...

I have read a lot of contraditory info about Vita C during pg. It's a water soluble vitamin that means that what you don't need, are excreted in your urine. So I'm not sure what to believe ... but I did/am not taking extra Vita C for flu's during pg. Just to be on the safe part, especially after reading that it can lead to low birth weight. So check your preggie vites to see if there are not already enough vita C in them .. if so, leave the powder and rather just much a kiwi (more vita c than oranges) and get LOADS of rest and drink lost of fluids.

    Hope you feel better soon

Poor Ren! I got the flu BAD when I was about 22 weeks and it was terrible! I went to the docs and she gave me some anti B's - but I was to scared to take them! I was just living on panadene (safe and stronger than panadole) and panadine also act as a cough comprssor so they help if you have a cough. As I get asma as well I was on my venatlin as well. I used alot of Fess nasal spray (salty water) and that really helps with blocked nose and for my thought I just had honey and lemon drinks.
I was off work for a week and a half when I had it so I know how crappy it can get!
hang in there and I hope you feel better soon!
My DH has it to at the moment - just keeping my fingrs crossed that I dont get sick at this late stage! Would hate to go into labour and have the cold!!

Thanks girls. I've taken today off and just resting.... it's more a head cold/flu i think as its in my head and my throat. My nose isnt affected. My head hurts so i've taken 1 of those lemsip cold and flu hot drinks thats safe for b/feeding women and only has panadol in it so figured thats safe for me to take.
Having oranges and i have Vit C powder that i was advised by a herbalist is safe to take as long as i don't go over the limit they suggest..... (excess Vit C just gets pee'd out anyway)

It's so cr@ppy feeling cr@ppy isnt it..... I couldn't sleep well last night just tossed and turned i think i got about 3hrs sleep. Bub kept kicking me too which didn't help

Oh well, i'd rather be sick now than when i'm at the stage when i could go into labour, that would be awful being sick and in labour!!!

HI Ren I really hope you will start to feel better soon! When I'm sick or getting sick I take Inner Health Plus full of good cultures and helps your body fight the sickness faster! Although I know at this stage all you want is something to take the symptoms away until you get better - sorry I can't help you there. Everything everyone else said is right rest fluids and honey lemon drinks. Hope you feel better soon.

You poor thing - there's nothing worse than being sick when pg. When I was about 22 weeks I got a throat and chest infection. The best thing for the throat is to gargle salt water. I know it sounds horrible and like an old wives tales but I swear within a couple of days your sore throat will be gone.

    Hope you feel better soon.

Hope you feel better soon Ren. Big hugs I agree with the warm salt water gargle. Is a safe "antiseptic/antiviral". You could also try ease a cold lozenges which are safe in pregnancy. Paracetamol 2 tablets 4 times a day is safe for pain and fever.
Oh yeah, and a big YES for chicken soup It truly helps. Get well soon.
