    Infected Belly Piercing

I have my first ever belly button infection. I have been told not to take it out as it means the pus (gross I know) no matter how little there is of it (a very small amount in my case) will just get trapped in the closed piercing.

I was wondering if anyone else had had an infaction while pregnant and what they did to help it heal?? I am trying cotton wool soaked in warm salty water and trying to avoid antibiotics.

Would colostrum help?? I know that sounds like a weird question but the midwife told me that when babies get eye infections the best thing to do is squeeze a little booby juice in the eye because there are so many good properties in it (same as with cracked nipples apparently) I wonder if this would be the same for this or if it is likely to make it worse.

    TIA

My mum had a bad infection and used "Medi-honey, Antibacterial honey barrier'. I use it for other things like ingrown toenails and stuff too and it's awesome, heals everything super fast. You just put a bit on and put a band-aid over it so it doesn't get everywhere.
Also, try and go out and sit in the sun and let it get some sun and fresh air for a bit each day, that really helped mine.

Ok this is going to sound strange but soap and sugar get a bar of soap cut it into fine pieces mix sugar into it and put it in the microwave till its soft and like a spread put it on the belly button and the ring and put a bandaide over it and you will find it will clear up in a day my sister had the same thing we call it the witch medicine hehe my nana always made us put it on our sores and everything

P.s you only need a tablespoon of soap and a table spoon of sugar don't use liquid soap

For the first time ever my belly ring got infected when I was about 32wks pg. I took the ring out. I managed to drain some pus out by squeezing it (sorry TMI) and then put on Savlon for a couple of days. It cleared up very quickly. I didn't put my ring back in again until after DS was born.

Savlon will work well. As will any cream/liquid with chlorhexadine in it.
If you use the sugar and soap option make sure that it is not too hot before putting it on your skin. Sugar can get much hotter than boiling water.

A really good way to clean it is warm salt water in a shot glass, then while bending over you put the shot glass over your belly then hold it there and sit down so it swishes around a bit! (hope that made sense!) Just make sure the seal is good or else you get it everywhere! Lol

Make sure you wash your hands first before attending to you piercing as most bacteria are spread by you hands. I would just wash my piercing with soap and water while in the shower and rotate the ring/bar. I would then dab both holes with betadine and cover with a band aid. I found the rubbing of my clothes irriated it more.

Thanks everyone. I have definately had to keep it covered so it doesnt rub with anything, it is feeling slightly better today after a nice salty wash but is still quite red and ouchy. I didnt think to use the shot glass idea though, will definately do that when I wash it tonight.
