thanks for all the replies...I did end up eating sushi at our local Japanese restaurant which is always very busy and where we have often eaten. I just stuck to the vegetable types or cooked fish..and it was delicious

Can I reopen this for some more recent replies/knowledge/opinions?

I am 18 weeks and desperately craving cooked tuna and avo sushi lol I have always eaten at this local place, its always busy I've and never gotten sick. Does anyone else eat sushi from restaurants during pregnancy or is it still just bad? I would think most sushi places would be aware of the rice risk and be extra careful these days. I cant imagine how homemade sushi would be as good. I cant really be bothered with it either...

As said before, it's the rice that's the main problem. But the reality is, if you lived in Japan what would you do???

I have eaten it early on, but I tend to get turned off by the smell.

I think if you haven't had any problems before and you trust the shop, go for it. If all else fails, ask your midwife

Haha sorry! I guess what confuses me is that the rice is bad because its been cooled... Because I would have to cool it at home too?

I asked midwife and doctor about this as im a sushi addict lol. If you have a trusted sushi restaurant, go for it I was told that the main risk is actually the raw meat and risk of cross contamination. The rice is not such an issue anymore, as restaurants are well aware of that risk. I was just told no raw meat sushi and none from those hole in the walls that sell the rolls that could have been made anytime in the past week lol

Preggoeggo: I hear you I have been craving tuna and avocado sushi from sushi train ever since I found out I was preg. I ate some on the weekend at a party where the host made it the night before and put it directly into the fridge, and only the tuna ones. However I used to work at a shopping centre and used to see in the morning the sushi rice in giant white tubs and that was what they used all day to make the sushi. I don't think that would be ok because you don't know what temp it is or how long it's been sitting there. Because of that I won't eat sushi anywhere unless someone or I make it. I don't think it's worth it. I think it like this, if something happened, and id just eaten sushi id forever think, what if me eating sushi did this. It's prob alright to eat, but for me, I couldn't risk it. But no judgement if you want to or others want to at the End of the day people do what they like and thats the way it should be.

Ps I happily eat subway still but last preg when I was diagnosed with GD the dietician at the hospital said that it was ok for me to eat subway ybecause it was the perfect size to give me a good reading

LOL Kitty.. bit off topic, funny you mention subway.. i manage one and cannot STAND it.. working there every day is a challenge in itself lol.

the only stuff i would eat from a subway anyway, is anything heated up, (chicken, steak) but i dont do deli meats ect anyway..

Caz that was the kind of way I was thinking about it... I wouldnt go to a little "hole in the wall" place. Perfectly described btw lol

Ive never been a fan of subway. Something about the smell...

DP wants to give it a go, making sushi from home.

    Gah! I'm undecided lol
