Lulu - the placenta is less likely to move (grow) upwards away from the cervix if it is covering the cervix. Is it completely over the cervix? There's grading of placenta praevia, and completely covering is the most serious.

From my experience watching friends with it completely covering the cervix, complete bed rest is inevitable at some stage (generally if there is bleeding and well into the second tri, but everyone is different), with the intention of keeping bub in as long as possible.

One of my close gfs was in hospital from about 26 weeks until bub was born via c/s at 36 weeks (from memory). I know of another who managed to stay out of hospital until 32 weeks but was then in until bub could be born. Both waited in bed until the bleeding returned enough to not stop easily with the baby mature enough to deliver ITMS. C/s is the only option with a complete placenta praevia.
