    M/S - When should I see a dr?

I am about 8 1/2 weeks and over the last two to three days my morning sickness has been out of control. Anything I eat or drink I vomit back up. I can't keep my maxalon tablets down tohelp with the m/s.
I've tried grazing, izy poles, lemonade, water at different temps, watered down juice, watered down cordial and nothing is working.
I'm starting to worry about bubba and me. I'm getting worried about dehydration now. My mouth is claggy and I'm bearly weeing. How long do I let it keep going for before I see a dr?

    TIA,
    Dan.

Thanks for the helps Tan & AJP. I guess I know I need to but I have to go to A&E but I work there so everyone will find out that I am pg. Silly reason I know but as soon as my boss finds out that I'm pg she is evil to pg women .

I wish AJP. They send anyone with a bubba on board to a Wodonga. I think I'm just going to have to tough it out and suck it up and go in. Hopefully they'll be able to keep me in A&E not send me around to the maternity ward.

Dan - if you google hyperemesis gravidarium there are some suggestions for additional things to take and some clinical guidelines with suggestions. You could see your GP for an IMI maxalon then go back to the orals, which would avoid the having to go to work part if you can then tolerate enough fluids. Also include pyridoxine (a vitamin B) which is meant to help with the nausea. Maxalon 10mg TDS and Pryridoxine 25mg TDS. Ondansetron is another option if that fails but the clinical guidelines go through that too.

Also, look under the patient information section when you do the google. There is a sheet of dietary advice of what foods to try depending on how bad your nausea / vomiting is. I think it is from Qld Health. Good luck - I hope this helps.

you could always go to your GP or care provider first and let them call it - they will know whether you need IV fluids or not.. Maybe try something else for m/s, like phernergan or something different?

    Hi Dan,

sorry you are having a rough time.

I have HG (still at 36 weeks) and have found that the vomiting gets worse as the dehydration sets in. I have found plain water doesn't stay down well so I'm drinking lots of weak cordial. At the moment I eat a lot of jelly as well as trying to drink a lot, but its so frustrating to try and try to stay hydrated and keep none of it down! IV rehydration and drugs made things feel a lot better. Also I have found my GP can give me a maxalon shot and that can be helpful when I'm not keeping oral drugs down so that can help prevent needing the IV.

At the moment I am on a mixture of meds - maxalon, zofran and phenergan which we started after several days IV rehydration. I have also been on stemetil and a corticosteroid (I think dexmethasone?) at other times - its been a real trial and error process and none of the drugs have stopped it completely but I have been better on the current drug regime, although the zofran is terribly expensive. Also with the maxalon and phenergan, I am unable to drive which is a real problem, and would have made life impossible if I hadn't already given up work due to the morning sickness.

Good luck and hopefully you'll feel lots better soon.

Sorry to hear you're so sick Dan. I understand why you don't want to go to hospital but you definitely need to get some fluids into you. Can you maybe go to your GP and ask for a shot of maxalon and see if that settles your stomach enough that you can then go home and start fluids? It may be enough to avoid a drip. I got a few maxalon shots with both my girls and they gave almost immediate relief - never thought I would voluntarily go to a doctor asking for a needle but they were a real lifesaver for me. I did end up on a drip once and again, felt a whole lot better quite quickly so hang in there - there is an end to the awfulness.

Thanks for all the advice and help everyone. I bit the bullet and went down to A & E. I got in trouble for leaving it so long, OOPS. I had three litres of IV fluid before I could wee. They gave me zofran, maxalon and kytril. I'm feeling a million times better and they have sent me home with a drug mixture so hopefully that will help me get on top of it. I've been having small sips of fluids and keep it all down . I have to go back if it gets bad again. The A & E staff were great and didn't even put my name on the board and keep it quiet which was do good of them.
    Thanks once again ladies.
