    nanterior placenta and doppler

Just looking for anyone who has had a similar experience to put my mind at ease. I had the doppler on yesterday at my obs and they could not find a heartbeat, so they put the US on and baby was moving and you could see the flicker of the hb but so much was obscured by the placenta we couldnt get a full shot so i dont know if the size etc was ok. My belly measured 16cm and im just over 15 weeks so she said that was good, but is it reliable. Feeling a little (or alot) paranoid but would really love to hear of others experiences is the doppler reliable?
    Thanks so much

Nope - the doppler is not reliable and the anterior placenta makes it REALLY hard to find a heartbeat on most occasions causing serious stress. I have an anterior placenta this time (and last time) and it decreases the movements felt (extra padding on the front of the uterus) and makes it more difficult to find the heartbeat with the doppler. My GP could hear my heartbeat and the placental flow but there was only a small area where she could find the baby's heartbeat. The ultrasound is the more accurate way to detect the heartbeat and foetal movement.

At one of my appts the doppler couldn't find the heart beat, but it was just coz of DS's position.
All should be ok. Don't stress. I was about 35 weeks when it happened.

Hi, I've had an anterior placenta both last time and this time. I got myself one of those home dopler things....cant hear a thing. My midwif couldnt hear a thing either. U/S shows everything is good and I can feel her moving so I know shes fine. So its pretty normal with this position the placenta is in. I am feeling better movements this time around despite the same position of the placenta. HTH

thank you all soo much for your replies they have put my mind at ease. I know i shouldnt be worrying as i got see bubs moving, but i couldnt really understand why it couldnt be heard. I actually felt movements very early on this time and now i hardly feel anything maybe every few days, i think i will be glad when im further along and can feel it everyday. Once again thanks for taking the time to reply, it has helped me so much
