I am 16 and a half weeks pg with baby number 2 and remember being a little thirsty with DS but this time I am ridiculously thirsty, especially at night, did anyone else experience this?
I'm really struggling of an evening as I get full so quickly from small amounts of food & then am really thirsty & need to keep drinking but end up so bloated I feel sick. I'm only eating small meals (a small cheese & lettuce sandwich for lunch and then a small portion of dinner is all I've eaten today) but I feel like I've eaten a 5 course meal for dinner & am so thirsty it's crazy.
I did a quick google search & gestational diabetes is suggested as a reason for excessive thirst & it also suggests you are more at risk of developing GD if you've had a big baby before (DS was 9p 11oz).
So, after all that! Did anyone have excessive thirst, especially at night? If so, was it a normal pg? I'm not sure whether I should be concerned about GD at this stage?
I drank over 2 litres each night plus water during the day, i was so thirsty all the time , so yes its normal , well for me it was , I had a normal pregnancy no concerns at all for me
With my last pregnancy I was. It was even like I craved it & got around with a glass of iced water or bottle non stop day & night! I had a normal pregnancy & no GD. DD was born 6lb13. I must say though, with all that water drinking, you get REALLY good, clear ultrasound shots, this time round, I havn't drank as much and have not been able to get 1 decent pikki. Also, I thought I should add, I have suffered bad heard burn/indigestion with all 3 pregnancies and I noticed when I felt bloated, the antacid helped with that as well with my heart burn/ indigestion, not sure if it was just a coincidence or not but you could try it??
my first pregnancy I was sssooo thirsty we were also concerned about GD. I would just drink water all day and night. it was ridiculous but it was just one of those darned pregnancy things. I never got GD and the pregnancy and labour were fine... so was bubs. It's the peeing that annoys me.. what goes in must come out! lol.
As you can see, thirst is pretty normal. I think maybe GD has other symptoms as well? So I'm not sure that thirst alone is cause for concern, just drink plenty. Still - it doesn't hurt to mention it next time you see your care provider, I'm sure they'd be able to set your mind at ease. xo
I am another who was sooo soooo thirsty, i always had my big bottle of water with a frozen block at the bottom. I was completely paranoid about GD as well (thank you google!), but passed the test and had no issues. My boy was huge though, 4.62kgs, and i was enormous from all of the fluid! I still pee frequently and am very very thirsty almost 9 months on Just did a real diabetes test to make sure and i came back fine from that as well.
Thanks for all of your replies I will mention it to my OB but I don't see him for another 2 weeks so it's nice to know that it's common (not so great about being up half the night peeing though )
Taryn, I know what you mean...icy cold drinks are what I'm desperate for!
Thanks daytona's mummy - I've got some quickeze so I might give them a go, also looking forward to seeing whether we get some good pics at our 18 week scan, non of DS's scans were very clear so this could be the upside to spending half my life in the loo!
Thanks again everyone for taking the time to reply
