We had a high risk result - I am 39. Mainly due to my age. We opted for the Amnio as it was recommended as the most accurate.

We also went for the fast track results and got them the next day instead of waiting 10-14 days. It only cost us an extra $200.

Our results were an all clear! The risk of miscarriage are an average over all the procedures recorded world wide. That means it takes into account Dr who are not very skilled and ladies that are high risk for late mc as well.

We went with a very well respected OB who does the test all the time and has great success rates. It makes a difference if you are going to someone who does this routinely rather than rarely.

Good luck on Monday - take the early test option or you will go MAD waiting.

Rest up after too. I have had two anmio's now and have spent three days on the couch after each (DVD's and choc are part of the recovery) with only mild cramping and a bit of spotting with my first (when I was only 34! - good result there too).

Just over two weeks ago I had my NT scan, my baby had a nuchal fold of 8-10mm, I am 27yo, my results came back a 1:2 chance of down syndrome, I also had a high chance of Trisomy 18 although I cannot remember the number given. I had a CVS and I am happy to say that I got the results back, no abnormalities were found. It was a very stressful time and it is hard not to worry about your unborn baby but please do remember that you have a 3 out of 4 chance that the baby will be just fine.

I think it is about $200 extra for the FISH test that you get the results within 24 hours, you do get some of this backthrough medicare though, this is just from memory though as I did not get the FISH test this time around but I did last year with DD.

If you need to chat or ask any questions please do not hesitate to ask.

Best of luck, I will be thinking of you .

Actually as the FISH test is only 99.7% reliable and waiting the extra 10 days gives you 100% Medicare will not pay anything towards the test. Thats why we have to pay for it even when it is done in a public hosptial. Sorry.

Ahh sorry, I claimed so much with DD1 that I didn't realise that I didn't get anything back for this, as I said we didn't opt for it this time around.

Aussiegirl - I've pmed you with my story. Not much different to Daintree's! But a very positive outcome - my little boy should be here very soon!

Aussiegirl - wanted to wish you much luck with your procedure and results. I have not made it far along enough to get to the amnio/CVS option, but I hope I will get there (and I will definitely be having one as I'm "old" and both my m/c have been due to trisomies).
