when I got PG with Paige, Sheppy(border collie) really started keeping his distance for a fair amount of the PG,We did all of the pre-introduction things including have DH bring home things from the hospital with the smell, when we came home we put Paige on the floor and Shep gave her the once over wagging his tail he was fascinated he looked at me as if to say 'oh I understand now, is she really ours?', as time went on he stayed close to her and when she started kicking her legs reliably he got his puppy toys and placed them at her feet and would move them back in to place as she kicked them...VERY CUTE,
once Paige could reach out and touch her Shep became a little more wary of her and keeps his distance mostly (but takes advantage of times when her hands are full to swipe her across the face with his tongue), he pretends mostly disinterest lately when she grabs him in a bear hug saying 'love you sheppy' you can almost see him rolling his eyes but if I come home without her in the car he gets most concerned and will continue to hunt for her and continues to give me daggers until we go and collect her from where ever she is.
When Paige goes to bed at night sheppy bundles the clothes that she was wearing for the day under his chin and sleeps on them like a pillow
I think they really will be the best of friends in time.
