Question Qu for those who fell PG whilst Breastfeeding

    Hi!
For those of you who have fallen pregnancy whilst breastfeeding (ie- with your second or subsequent child), did the early pregnancy symptoms you experienced whilst breastfeeding differ at all from the early preg symptoms you encountered with number 1?
With DS 1#, I remember that I developed incredibly sore boobs from about a week after ovulation, combined with early waking and very mild nausea upon waking (went away as soon as I ate).
I haven't tested yet, but DH and I have been trying since Dec for number 2#, and my period is late. I am getting regular high temps but have promised myself not to waste money on a test until I reach day 40 of my cycle. (Day 37 today). My usual cycle is around 30 days but whilst breastfeeding my cycles have been longer. They have been gradually getting shorter as I wean (last one was 33 days, the one before 35 days) so I am not THAT overdue yet - iykwim? So I'd rather test later than sooner....
But- I have a strong feeling that I could be pg, despite the absence of the very sore boobs I had last time.
Do you think that the breastfeeding (I am only down to 1 feed a day now) would reduce the severity/eliminate breast pain and even the nausea somewhat? Did you find that happened to you? I was thinking perhaps that bcoz I am still bfding, some preg hormones are still floating around so the sudden rise in hormones would not cause the nausea it did last time?
I'd really love to hear your experiences of early preg symptoms whilst breastfeeding and how they differed (if at all) to your pg without breastfeeding.

Thanks- sorry I went on forever. Praying for a BFP.....

    X

I fell twice while breastfeeding, but I dont remember any specific differences. I do remember that I did know it though. The test was a formality. I was certain even before AF was due.

Yeah me too, I just knew I was UTD before testing. My first pregnancy symptoms sounded very similiar to yours, and with my second I didn't experience the sore boobs, maybe because I was still BF, not sure.

And don't forget that all pregnancies are different. One pregnancy you might experience bad MS but none at all with the next pregnancy.

I hope day 40 comes around soon enough for you and you get some sticky vibes.

when I fell pg with DD2 I felt incredibly tired even before I was late! The nausea hit earlier than with DD1, but I didnt get the boob soreness!
I was down to 2/3 feeds a day at that stage.
    HTH and all the best

Thanks for the replies. Mmmm...... it seems you all had a distinct lack of sore bbs when pg & breastfeeding. This is looking promising. So petrified to get my hopes up, but with every passing hour a BFP seems more likely!

I've fallen prg twice while b'feeding - the first time I had no real symptoms other than a late period and a bit of nausea after about 6 weeks. That was the baby we lost though so I'm not sure if the lack of symptoms was an indication of what was to come.

This time I had incredibly sore nipples on feeding (which lasted up until about 14 weeks) and noticed a huge drop in supply - these are the reasons i started to suspect something was up.

Ive fallen pregnant two times whilst breastfeeding too....

First time i just noticed drop in supply, and DD was fussy at breast (obv a change in the taste of the milk as they say in the first 12 weeks due to hormonal changes in body....)

Second time i really didnt notice anything in relation to breastfeeding, just very, very tired.

Good luck with your test !

Yes! Thats it. Thanks for the reminder. My supply dropped off too. I took DD1 to get her 2 month check and she had lost weight. It completely crushed me and for the longest time I really felt like a failure.

Yeah I was going to say that too, but didn't want to scare you. My supply dropped off completely. I think I was 5 weeks, when my DD moved to a bottle. I was a little clueless at the start, but soon realised why. Signs are looking good for you. Please let us know how you go, fingers crossed

Hun I wasn't BFing when I fell pg with #2 and #3 and my BBs were nowhere near as sore as they were with #1. I think it is normal to not have as sore BBs for subsequent pgs. Good luck hun!!

Yes, in the beginning it was very different for me. First time around I knew I was pg while it was still too early to POAS. Second time I had no idea at all, even though we were trying I didn't think I was pg. I only POAS because DH was convinced I was pg (my tummy was already showing by 3 weeks!).

Thanks for the replies guys - very interesting indeed!!

DS is down to just 1 feed a day now so I haven't really noticed a distinct dip in supply yet- although he does seem to be pulling off a little sooner than usual.....

Day 38 today and still no sign of AF so a BFP is looking more likely. I will keep you posted!!!

Hey Jellybean, just wondering how you went, did you test day 40?
