So sue me, I ate ham.

And yes, I do feel a tad guilty, but I understand the risks and possible consequences and still chose to eat it.

I REALLY wanted a ham sandwich. I've been wanting once since I was 4-6 weeks. So I had one. With 2 slices of honey leg ham, a good quality sharp and crumbly chedder and lots of wholegrain mustard. And fresh bread from a bakery.

I did heat it through in the microwave first...whether this helped the 'germs' grow or killed them, I have no idea.

Soft Cheese was a craving for me in my last pregnancy, so I ate it, and P turned out okay.

But OMG, the sandwich is GOOD. Just what I have been hanging out for, for 19 weeks!

I am a believer that when you are preg, your body craves what it needs. I thought this was just a salt craving, but no, I wanted ham. Last pregnancy, my first and strongest craving was Broccoli...4 heads a week of the stuff! This time, the cravings haven't been as strong, but the long lasting ones have been ham and fruit.

Ooooohhhhh... I crave deli meat!! Your sandwich sounds amazing! The only thing that stops me eating it is by buying less than I really need for DH's weekly sandwiches, and getting him to make them himself all at once and freezing them lol. Otherwise I'd be picking at it, and then probably end up eating the whole thing I reckon sticking it in the microwave would make it ok, surely that'd kill those germies.

But, like you said, you know the risks, you can do what you like!

Seriously?!? It's like shaved chicken, but kind of formed into squares so it's all the same shape and slice size. Yummy

I only eat meat once in a blue moon and P doesn't eat meat at all, so a chrissy ham would most likely mostly get wasted!

    @rachel - ta muchly.

It's weird because I have been feeling hot, headachey, nauseated and generally blah and dissatisfied all day...despite eating well and drinking plenty of water...until the ham sandwich.

Now I feel great! Nausea gone, headache gone, fever gone.

    Magic ham?

Now all I want is a Magner's, cold beer or a glass of Barossa Shiraz....but booze is where I draw the line!

God when I was pregnant with Palmer I HAD to have soft cheese, or the world would end. I only ate it for about a week in the entire 9 months but it fulfilled the want, despite being very lactose intollerant.

Novel way to solve pregnancy constipation though, if you're lactose intollerant. :-P

YUM! I know the risks too but when I was pregnant with DS I ate two ham, cheese and tomato sandwiches nearly everyday of those 40 weeks! It had to be FRESH and it had to be from a certain bakery where I live.

Ehh, beware the evil ham sandwich!! I had to eat toasted ham and cheese sandwiches to satisfy my cravings when pg with DD2... that triple-smoked ham from the Woolies deli gets me EVERY time. Microwaving it should have fixed it up for you, but really, if it's fresh then you should have no worries Enjoy!

I think the feeling of yummy happy tummy-ness feels better than the crying, whinging misery of craving something and making yourself not eat it! :-D

Is ham wrong just coz its from the deli? Its not processed like chicken roll or devon, so I thought it was ok? I've always eaten it

I was always told that ALL deli meats were no-go zones, but I am not sure if anyone really knows the proper sicentific facts of listeria risks these days....it seems to get weirder and more involved all the time!
