Hey hun, with Isabelle I had half a glass of wine a few times with my dinner throughout the pregnancy. It was from around 28 weeks though, but that's just me. I was pretty careful with everything up until at least 20 weeks and then relaxed a little. It is up to you but there is still no research to show if bubs are affected by alcohol so most say avoid it at all costs. If I was you I would hold out for a few more weeks babe. Bubby is still going through the most important developmental stages right now so I would be inclined to wait. JMO.

ETA- I have good friends who are Italian and they would tell me how every pregnant woman in Italy would have a watered down red with her meal throughout the pregnancy because it was good for bubs development. Interesting cultural differences!

I dont drink at all during pregnancy, though just recently I have been wanting to!
Research has shown that fetal alcohol syndrome has no rules as to how much alcohol is needed to affect a baby in the womb. Some woman can drink like fish and no damage is done, others can drink very small amount and damage is caused.
Best to avoid booze, even a glass for the next months, since you just cant tell if your baby is at risk or not. Add it to the list of heaps of things we have to do without!!

mmm yeah I was a big drinker before becoming pregnant, but now I just wont. Id love a glass, but what is the point of just one glass lol. It's only 9 months, and as a PP said, no one knows for sure what the risks are....

But I do know alot of people who drink while preg..

No, no alcohol for me. But good a good friend did have occasional glasses of wine mixed with juice, and her kids are fine. For me it's just not worth the risk, seeing as I don't really *need* to have it. It's a choice every woman has to make for herself.

Wine tastes like acid to me while pregnant so it isn't a temptation at all (although I still like to sit next to a glass of good red and smell it ). Beer on the other hand does taste good - last time I was pregnant I was in Eastern Europe and they make the BEST alcohol free beer over there so I didn't feel like I was missing out at all. Hmmm maybe a trip to Dan Murphy's is in order to see if they have any

I have had at least 2 glasses of wine a week during my pregnancy. I'm not sure whether it has done any damage yet but I have had lots of friends who have had a few glasses every now and then and their kids seem to be fine.

To be honest, when we were on holidays i had a ****tail and it was sooooo good. I was about 14 weeks. SInce then i have had 1/2 of a full strength beer. Dh was having one and it tasted so nice. It took me about 45 mins to drink and i must admit that afterwards i felt really flushed and tired.
Its a personal choice really, like everything else during pregnancy

I haven't had a drop but geez I've wanted to, especially during the first tri when I was insanely nervous.

With DD1 I refused. At 8 months I had a tiny sip of DH's Rum & coke just to taste it again. That was it.

With DD2 I had 3 or 4 drinks for New Years. Over the day & night, so spread out.
& I had a glass of champers at a christmas party, one with Christmas lunch, & 2 on my 21st.

With DS I went to a wedding at 13 weeks. I had one ****tail with a friend I hadn't seen in months & at the reception I think I had 2 glasses of white with lemonade to water it down.
I also had a half nip of Rum & coke in a middy at work one night as I was really upset after a fight between DH & I. I worked at a pub & was bawling all over the place, so the other barmaid got it for me.

So I had the odd drink. Red is supposed to be beneficial, so I'm naughty coz I had spirits, but all my kids are perfectly healthy. Of course I never had enough to feel anything, but the few I did have didn't hurt.

Now I look like an alco!

i didnt have a drink till i was 38/39 weeks .. it was only a week or so ago , i tihnk i was soo fed up with being pg and trying everything to get labour started i demanded dh to go get a bottle of wine , it went down soooo well with the pizzas i made . only had 2 small glasses of red ..
and had a sml glass of white last night when we went out to tea , it helped me relax , but i think ive had enough for now ..

i wouldnt stress about it ... take it easy and have a sip if you feel like it , maybe not in the 1st tri but def in the 3rd to help you losen up is ok by me ...

last night to stop me spilling dh's pint i took a sip before walking back to the table , it took soo much will power not to skull the whole thing as it had been the most refreshing thing ive had all pregnancy ...

every thing in moderation and you and bub will be fine

eta:im pretty sure i had a few drinks before i found out i was pg with ps .. and even though his obsession with matchbox cars is really intense for a 2 yr old , the rest of him is fine

I had some bubbely with dd and with this one also ... to celebrate But that is only half a glass. I'm not a big drinker, so I don't miss it, but like this weekend was my reunion and I was truley drooling for a sip, but DH looked at me funny so I did not have any.

I read in a mag that having a glass of champane in the evening when you are in your third tri is actually good for you Says it helps you relax and helps you to calm down and even helps some women to get some sleep. They say you just pop the back of a teespoon into the neck of the bottle and that preserve the bubbels. I might try that if I get really uncomfy around 34 weeks or so.

But tbh ... I don't see a problem in having half a glass of wine with a nice dinner for a celebration. Try light wine and water it down with some ice or soda water .. and enjoy

I'm not pregnant or a drinker really (I have maybe 1-2 glasses per year) so probably not the most qualified to answer this BUT anywho, I won't let that stop me! LOL!

Maybe hollo you could try dealcoholised wine or beer? Or try and think about what it is that you most would like about the drink and see if you can replicate that in another way. For instance, is it the icy coldness of beer - try adding heaps of icecubes to lemonade. Or if it's the fact that you just get to sit down and sip something special why don't you buy some fancy adult cordials (non-alcoholic), served with a straw in a special glass and have that with a nibble at sunset?

Ruth i was going to suggest the same thing...

Im still not drinking due to BF.
A couple of times i have felt like a glass of red and so have waited until MJ goes to bed so it has time to clear from my system, but like sods law, she alwasy wakes in 2 hours needing a feed and i feel so guilty so i dont really bother now.

The beer on a hot day (not that there has been any days like that for a while ) is the hardest... i found that the non alcoholic beer that you can by from Safeway tastes EXACTLY like you are having a beer... so drink that at times (i like the coopers the best).
I wouldnt bother with the non alcoholoic Wine it is Gross, i have tried loads and they really cant mimic the flavour.

The other thing i found, Your taste changes when you are pg and bf too, the drinks that i use to love tasted yuck, so couldnt enjoy them anyway.

BTW i was a big drinker pre pg and even though i have had a few cravings (the worst was Aust day, it was hot and the spirit was there, there was a festival in the park behind us and i really wanted a beer!!!) they are easy to work through with the thought of your bubba.

People told me it would be ok to have a drink here or there, but imo i would beat myself upp EVERY day if MJ had something wrong. I knew that there was always a chance that something could go wrong, but i wanted a clear conscience so i couldnt blame myself iykwim

To me, having a baby is a sacrific, but one that i am sooooo happy to make... it continues, financially. emotionally and physically and i reckon, judging by my parents, never ends

In the first tri i did not want to at all, it just smelt like acid (red wine that is).

Since then I have had a few sips of df's glass here and there, and have allowed myself up to two half glasses of red a week. (or last week I had a whole glass of red after doing OT on a saturday!!!!First tiem whole preg). Some weeks I have had none though.....

I dont see the harm in a little red, I dont really think you should have anything else but red is just so good for you - half a glass of red and a square (or two!!) of dark choc is well deserved I think!
