Just wondering who has had this and all turn out ok?
I had a look at V's u/s records with her 12wks u/s and it also suspected a 2 vessel cord. Had a CVS with her though which came back all clear. Ohh I should just mention that they said it is only suspected as they are unable to tell for sure as it is too early.
So now I am wondering has anyone else been throught this and all turned out ok?
2-vessel cords don't mean a great deal. They *may* indicate a chromosomal problem, but these are usually ruled out at 12 weeks. They also *may* indicate problems with heart and/or kidneys, so if the 2-vessel cord is confirmed at the morphology scan you could end up with a few extra scans booked in for later in the pregnancy. They *may* also lead to smaller babies at birth and *may* indicate an early arrival.
Of course, from everything I have read, just as many people with 2 vessel cords avoid all of that.
Sam had a two-vessel cord (single umbilical artery) which was found at our 18 week morphology scan. We had extra scans at 24 and 32 weeks to take a closer check at the heart and kidneys and to check on growth. They went from being worried he would be small at 24 weeks to freaking out about how big he would be at 36 weeks...
Sam arrived early at 36 weeks and he had an ultrasound of his kidneys when he was 8 weeks old just to check on things. It was a routine check and they didn't expect to find anything and they didn't. No lasting issues at all. They gave me no reasons for his early arrival other than "one of those things". Oddly enough, a friend at church also had a little boy with SUA and he also arrived at 36 weeks.
I don't think I've ever read about a SUA case where problems were actually detected. I hope that gives you some comfort and reassurance.
Thanks for sharing hun, as I mentioned V had a suspected one, but we had to have a cvs with her due to her being high risk, this time I have been given 1 in 408 of DS, and they advised that they dont believe there is a need for a cvs or other further testing, yet I know I am going to be a bunch of nerves until the 18wk one now, so starting to rethink the cvs due to that, however they did find a nasal bone so hopefully all is ok. The only thing that really has me thinking is we were given 3 measurements today, the first done by the sonographer which gave a NF of 3.7mm, then the DR's two of them came in and rechecked, the first DR gave a result of 1.9 and 2.1mm then the second DR gave a result of 2.1 and 2.2mm, so they both agreed that 2.2mm was the result. They also mentioned that the first person had measured the NF at the wrong angle due to bubs position.
I can imagine how stressed you are! Just focus on that one scary measurement being WRONG and trust that everything will be ok. I'm not completely sure, but I don't think the heart/kidney problems would be picked up with a CVS anyway.
They wouldnt be able to pick up that with a cvs, but other things that like DS they can. V is small, so I am hoping like crazy that this one will end up with no peads appts etc, as it takes so much out of you. Really praying that the 18wk scan turns out perfect, as V's wasnt. Hoping this pgcy turns out stress free.
