My DS has had swine flu and as you can see from my ticker I"m UTD. I was covered in his snot and spew for over a week and co-slept with him for that entire time. I've been tested and I'm clear. The thing I'm saying is that if you are out at the shops I'd just be exercising general precautions. Wash your hands after touching things in public places, avoid close contact with people who are sneezing/coughing and if you feel sick at all, seek medical attention rather than trying to ride it out.
The normal seasonal Influenza A can be just as serious and it's been around forever.
I agree that this seems to be a bit of a media hype.
ETA: I was offerred Tamiflu but declined. The Doctor told me there have been no long term studies on it's effect during pregnancy so I just left my immune system do the work. Saying that, if I was diagnosed with Swine, I think I'd be taking it.
II might wear a mask if I feel there is too many people about. It's scary! ..I already have a sore throat and a bad cough that I got from my darling DD
Serenity, my mum has been saying the same thing to me! I should wear a face mask in public in case I get swine flu!
Well, I haven't been wearing a mask. I've just been extra vigilant with hygiene, washing my hands, etc after being out in public. Avoiding other people who have coughing, sneezing, etc. I could wear a mask I suppose or not go out in public at all, but then DF has to go to work and he could bring it home with him and I'd still get it anyway.
I agree with getting any type of flu is bad and the media have just been hyping it all up and scaremongering.
