...anyone??
Hi Willow,
I recently had thrush & now I think it might be coming back again. I used yoghurt as well a number of other things to treat it. I used about a tablespoon just before going to sleep. I read somewhere that suggested wearing a pad if you are worried about making a mess.
For me, it really only gave temporarily relief. I also went to chemist & got a 6 Day cream treatment that is safe to use when pregnant plus I went to health shop & got Inner Health Plus to help improve my digestive system. My midwife also recommended to cut out yeast (bread was the main source of yeast in my diet, not sure what else has yeast in it other than beer) & sugar as this is what the bad bugs feed off.
Hope your able to get rid of it, it is horrible. Best of luck.
Thanks cam&coco I've been on the Inner health plus for about a week now and been using canestan but 4 days off the cream and it's back with a vengeance thought I'd try the more natural route this time, I know I need to get off the sugar and yeast too, but after 4months of not eating I'm now really hungry and don't have a lot of self control...guess I shouldn't really complain then should I!![]()
I know how you feel...I have had constant thrush throughout my whole pregnancy - it comes and goes. Nothing I eat or don't eat seems to helpI do find, though, that the yogurt does a better job for me than the creams - not only is it natural, but when you're itchy, the coldness of it straight out of the fridge is fantastic
I just used a pad and popped about a tablespoon in right before bed, too - and very little of it ended up on the pad, really.
Thanks Becs_bubs I've gone off yeast and sugar for 10 days to see if it helpsonly 8 loooong days to go!
Coming off sugar is like coming of nicotine! I am sooooo cranky!!
I've tired the yogurt and I have been thrush free for a month. Woo
I got a 10ml Syringe and sucked up about 3ml worth and put it up there - not to far though beacuse you don't want to poke anything. I used it for 5 days twice a day.
I also started taking innerhealth plus and eating yoghurt everyday, I cut out sugar but not bread. Being pregnant I don't think it's a good idea to leave out a main food group from your diet. I do go with breads that have more grains in them though. Stay away from white bread!
Good luck! I hope it goes soon, i HAAATTEEE it!
I'm glad I found this thread. Antibiotics have produced a major thrush attack- silly me for not taking pro-biotics at the same time!
Amberj I never had thrush in my life until I was on antibiotics about 10 years ago. Ever since then I get it quite often but now with this pg it's been chronic!! Aaaarrggh!!
Hope you get some relief!!!!
I'm 5 days into my 10 days of no sugar or yeast andit does the trick and clears my system! Taking Inner Health Plus too

teagz I did the syringe tooworked pretty well I thought! I've cut out bread but am still having a little pasta and Mountain bread is yummy just not as filling as normal bread.
Make sure you aren't using 'commercial' yoghurts though - like Ski and Yoplait - they are full of sugar and generally have lower probiotic count than a natural yoghurt like the Bio-Dynamic Organic Jalna ones...
I used the Jalna![]()
If you use natural yogurt as a douche make sure you get one with a high probiotic count -such as Mundella Natural.
You can also try inserting a probiotic capsule (ie Inner Health Plus) into your vagina and let it dissolve. This contains plenty more good bacteria than yogurt.
The best way to avoid thrush is to balance your internal ph levels by eating a predominantly alkaline diet (yeasty bacteria such as thrush need an acidic environment to survive) and limit yeast and sugar-rich foods. Both bread and vegemite are no nos - unless you are eating yeast-free bread. Alcohol and coffee will also feed the problem.
Google acid alkaline balance and you will find heaps of info on this.
Best of luck.

Jellybean thanku! I never would have thought to insert the inner health plus the yoghurt has a cooling effect though so I guess maybe you could do both.
I'm not drinking alcohol at the moment being pg but I do like acidic type foods eg salad dressings with lots of vinegar and of course very partial to chocolate.
So I'll have to look into that as well you're right it is about balance.
I have had yeast for about 15 years continuously so i can totally understand with how annoying it is... considering i am only 22, that is a looooonnnng time. I have tried everything in terms of 'medicine' that is available at pharmacies both with and without perscription. I have tried the no yeast and sugar diet also about three times....but to no avail i caved.
Now that I am pregant I am trying it again; however i am doing with the aide of natural therapies as well. I am on a super probiotic (inner health plus doesn't work) that you mix the culture and the booster just before you drink it; that way its not old. Because you mix it just before you take it, the good bacteria actually make it down to your intestine where it needs them. with inner health it doesn't usually make it that far.
I also am on other minerals and something called green quay which is like all plant matter in a powder form that you mix with water to drink. which neutralises your acids and stuff... cuz yes as someone said earlier that thrush lives in an acidic environment.
Garlic is a great alkaline food apparently (fresh garlic) so mix that with food... i've been on the diet again for two weeks and i've caved a couple times... so back to the begining for me

Kirley 15yrs!You poor thing!! Hope everything you're trying now works for you. If you can stick to the yeast and sugar free diet for at least 10 days with all the other therapies you're doing it really should help clear your system and after the 10 days if you don't go nuts with the sugar and yeast I would have thought your flora would be strong enough to ward of any more yeast. But maybe since yours is so chronic you need the yeast and sugar free for longer or as a constant maybe.
Anyway good luckKeep me posted to see how you go

Yep it drives me nuts... i've been on this diet for two weeks before and didn't cave and it didn't do anything...apparently it takes 1 month for every year you've had itits guna be a loooong time before i can eat what i want... it's so hard being pregnant cuz i'm so hungry too and can't just snack on anything anytime i want!!
I understand the frustration and I only had to do it for 10 days! I swear coming off sugar was as bad emotionally as when I quit smoking I was a huge ball of anger! And add hungry and just want to have a sandwich or toast or something yummy and you can't, I was not pleasant!![]()
