    Threat of Induction - Vent

So yesterday I had my 40 week appt at the hospital. I have been doing GP/shared care and TBH I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
I see a different OB at each hospital appt, and I have to see an OB rather than a MW, even though my pregnancy is low risk and the chance of an OB being present at the birth is minimal.
Yesterday's OB surprised me by being incredibly HONEST.
She said I was to book an appt for next Wed when I'll be 41 weeks. She said they'll want to do an internal and book me in for an induction.
I responded by saying, 'but we'll wait a little longer than 7 days before inducing, won't we?'
And her answer was, "We'll call the birth suite and see how busy they are".
There were no platitudes like, "We'll see how the placenta is functioning" or "We'll see how the baby is doing"... I was shocked by how open she was about it. It all comes down to their schedule, LOL! I am almost too amused to be angry.

Oh hon....i notice we are 1 day apart on EDD.....and i had that 'induction/induce' talk when i was 39w+4 days...i am doing midwife care.
I know EXACTLY how you feel....and right now im sitting here, with my due date passing me by and im still pregnant with no baby in site.....
I have an appt on Tues at 10am and i said something similar to you....'i wont need to make an appt, coz i wont be there', but she just smiled and continued on. Anyway, as ive said, i have vented in another post and the whole induction thing the minute you hit 40wks.....but just wanna say i send you as much labour vibes as i can spare (gotta be a bit greedy.....), and stick to your guns.....as i keep telling myself, its still early days.....

Thats seriously stupid. I can just imagine that phone call.

Ob: "So, how busy will you guys be on June 3rd"
Delivery Suite: "Yeah, like we can predict that..."

*shakes head* This is just sad. Hope they leave you to SVB. I am sooooo looking forward to my next "Induction Talk"....

    Whats SVB Inertia?

Same thing I said to Mbear. Put your foot down! It comes down to what you want and trusting your body.

Unfortunately I think its just the way it is with having a Bub in the public health system. I was induced at 40wks+12 days(after they did the internal at 41 weeks they then booked the induction appt for the following week) and then when Bub was born the midwife said "oh maybe your dates were wrong she is still covered in vernix" (apparently when they are late they are more"dried out")

I hope your little one decides to come out soon(without being poked or prodded or induced!) you cant blame them though all nice and warm in Mum's belly.
    Best of luck!

Spontaneous Vaginal Birth would be my guess

Snacks - I am sending you lots of labour vibes and hope that labour comes on spontaneously before your appointment.

Mbear: Thanks for the labour vibes - you are right to keep some for yourself I can't believe they started talking to you about it even before your EDD!! That's ridiculous!
Mags: You are so right! As if they will know when they are going to be busy, LOL.
Tam: Yeah, at least next week it'll be a different OB so it could be that I don't have to argue at all - they might be reasonable...
Peach: Thanks, matey. What a frustrating thing that must have been for you to hear when your bubs was born. You're right - it is the way of the system these days. I just was shocked to hear the dr being so open about it.
    Townsvillegirl: Thanks, mate

Had accupuncture session today and have another one booked for tomorrow. Hopefully the talk will all be irrelevant anyway.

Peach - I was induced at 40 + 8 and DD still had some vernix on her. I remember commenting on it and get shifty eyes in response.

Got it in one TG. I think it was Tegam that said it best in the other thread. Babies aren't getting it wrong - the system is.

ETA: Hospitals kept writing it in my blue book as SVD. Meh, they were just spectators, I did all the bloody work!

Yes! I HATE the word 'delivery' when it's used in this context - implies that someone else makes more effort than you, or in fact that there's no work involved: you're just handed your baby! LOL.

    That's crazy.

She wasn't even pretending that it was a better option for bub.. I don't know if that makes it better or worse!

I am also in the public system, have already asked one Ob if we can go a bit later than 41+10 as I am hoping to VBAC & I really don't want induction... she has agreed to 41+13 (so far ) with monitoring, maybe a scan etc. So I don't care now if anyone else says different, that's what I want! at the least.

I think the least they can do for you both is to offer a check to see how bub is going instead of just assuming that induction is necessary.

Be strong....good luck....Here's hoping that it won't even be an issue
