Hi, I wonder if anybody has anything to say about a trip to Bali while pregnant.
My best friend lives in Bali and I've been meaning to visit her for about 9 years. DH and I would have a window of opportunity in the first week of march. I would be about 26 weeks pregnant. We are thinking of going now, because we won't be able to make it for quite some time after this baby is born. And it would be easier with 1 kid than with 2.
My only concern is the whole Bali belly "threat". Is it "safe" to make a trip like that while pregnant? I'm not quite sure what "dangers" loom over there, so any advice or opinion would be appreciated.
So long as you make sensible food choices, the 'threats' aren't really any biiger then if you were in Australia. I say go for it and enjoy yourself! It would be a good idea to look into travel insurance however, some will cover pg and some won't as it is a pre-existing condition.
Thanks, girls, for your input. Unfortunately I just spoke to my friend and she said that the rainy season is coming really late this year so the only time we could go, at the beginning of march, is not a good time to travel. So we might give Bali a miss this year :-(
i honestly think it will be fine and not worth sacrificing your trip.
i lived in fiji for a couple of years and many ex pat friends were pg there and had babies there and although it was a developing country and had the usual problems of water bugs etc, it was avoidable.
drink the bottled water, and use it for brushing your teeth etc etc and you should be good to go! and of course avoid ice cubes and that kind of stuff (and fresh squeezed juices). just go for packaged and ensure that things are cooked well (as you would do at home).
i reckon you might find yourself disappointed if you dont go, and dont worry about it being the rainy season as long as you are on the bottled water you'll be fine.
I agree you will be fine! I went to india and nepal when i was around 20 weeks, too and I was glad i went. It may be your last opportunity to visit your friend for ages, i think it would be harder with a little bubby. It also gives you a chance to relax and have a rest.
Yeah, but she said her local area is all flooded (as in at least ankle deep water), it rains ALL DAY, not just in the afternoon. Not what I would like to. I wanna go to the beach!!!! DH wants to surf. And DD HATES getting dirty. She cries when there's dirt on her hands and wants it wiped off straight away (I know, what kind of a child is she... I'm so not OCD, it's not funny. I have no idea where she gets it from)
So, we're thinking of going somewhere else, maybe a little closer. Would fit with our finances much better anyway.
This trip has been in the making so long. I don't want to rush it when it could be so much nicer if I just wait another year or so. I think she wants me to see her home in the best possible light, too. There are so many things she said she'd like to show me, that you can't really do when it's raining. She might get married there next year anyway, so I might just go to the wedding and combine that with a trip. Mmmmm, would be kinda funny, cause she came to my wedding in Germany a few years ago and I showed her my home country.
Thanks again for your input, ladies. Much appreciated.
By the way: India and Nepal. That sounds like an awesome trip. I've been wanting to go there for a long time also.

DH & i flew to tropical north QLD when i was only in the first-timester
we asked our OB & he said it was fine to do so seeing it was only 3hr flight.
just to be sure I would just as your OB for their opp as some people are recomended they do not fly maybe because of high risk of M/C??
