    Travelling whilst pregnant

Hi everyone - I have just registered (after spending a few weeks on this website already reading all your advice- so thank you!)

My husband and I are planning a 4 to 5 week holiday to US/Canada while I will be 27 to 31 weeks pregnant for the first time - in short, are we crazy? We have a family wedding in my 30th week (and will leave Canada immediately afterwards) so my question is not so much if I should go at all or if I should leave earlier (as I have to be at the wedding) but if a 4 to 5 week holiday will be too strenuous for me.

The airlines allow you to fly to 36 weeks and I have found an company that will give travel insurance for a pregnant women (but not if I give birth!) as long as a medical is submitted.

Has anyone travelled this late in their pregnancy? Will I be to exhausted to sightsee? If we take things slowly and do tours (as opposed to walking everyone) will I be ok?
any advice would be much appreciated!

I think the best answers to your questions can only come from you. If you listen to your body you can't really go too wrong. Allow yourself to rest when you need to, have alone time when you must (Weddings are stressful and traveling is stressful), take care of your diet. Especially while flying make sure you're really well hydrated- flying takes it right out of you.
    Good luck!

I think the main problem you might face is the long flights - you will need to get up and walk around the plane a lot to keep your circulation moving. Can you break up the long flights with some overnight stops just so you're not stuck on the plane so long? And drink LOTS of water on the flights as planes dehydrate you even more than pregnancy does...

Once you're there you'll be able to pace yourself - spend one day resting somewhere pretty for every couple of days of tearing around sightseeing.

Have fun - it sounds like a great trip!

I travelled from London to Perth via Hong Kong when I was 34 weeks pregnant. Truthfully I was fine even tho it was a very long flight. I wore the recommended pressure stockings and we had a few hours stop in Hong Kong before our next flight which helped ease it a bit. I did find that by the time I got off the plane in Perth I had really really swelled up - quite funny actually the difference between before flight and after flight. Was slightly a bit uncomfortable on flight itself but all the hosties were so nice and accomodating, they really went out of their way to look after me.
