What should i take for lunch?

Over the next week im working in the city at a Gift Fare (10hrs a day) and i am wondering if anyone has any suggestions on what i can take for lunch.
I won't buy it cause 1-its too expensive and 2- i can't guarantee it will be fresh/safe to eat
I'd like to take something but i can't heat anything up cause im not sure if they've got a microwave and wont find out until i get there on Saturday (tomoz)
I was thinking of maybe a sandwich but everyone says i can't have cold meat which would make it taste good. Although other people say 'Ham off the bone' is fine to eat if you get it freshly cut infront of you....
Any suggestions that dont require heating would be great

Do you have a thermos? If you do you could always heat your lunch at home (if its soup or pasta) and then not have to worry about a microwave.

Silly question but can you ring them to see what facilities they have?

They would more than likely atleast have a kettle so if you are into instant noodles or pasta and stuff you could have that.

I eat chicken that i have cooked and then stored myself on sandwiches (so i know its been cokked through and then cooled properly and its fresh) but will only eat it the next day.

You could have plain salad s/wich with cheese and grainy bread.

I lurve salada's with cheese and tomato atm.

Other wise the only suggestion i have is to take along a good old vegemite or peanut butter roll and some fruit and snacks that dont require refidgeration or preparation.

I like the thermos of soup idea.

You could also cook some chicken and as long as you handle it correctly and refrigerate it correctly you could use if for a sanga. It would of course need to be in a esky or the like with an ice brick or two.

A tub of yoghurt and a couple of pieces of fruit make a plain old cheese sandwich look a little more inviting. Or take some saladas or similar with cream cheese on them.

Don't forget to take some snacks if you are there for 10 hours. Buying a box of muesli bars is heaps cheaper than buying chocolates or similar from the cafe.
