What's the latest you can fly (short trip)?

I just flew at 24/25 weeks (literally flew back today - 3.5 hr flight both ways) and had no probs. So a bit earlier than you, but when I checked the airline sites, they all said that later would be fine too, but that if you're looking big, you may need to provide proof of due date so they know you're not gonna pop any sec. Apparently they can refuse to let you board if they're sus.

My obs advised me to take a copy of my history and to wear support stockings (which i did). Incidentally was able to get the support stockings for HEAPS cheaper through the hospital than the pharmacy. Happy to give the details of where I got mine (as I'm in Melb also) PM me if you want

I think you need to speak to your ob and ask why he/she is saying 28 weeks.

I would also ring which ever airline you are considering flying with and ask their policy on the matter too.

I was told i needed a letter from my dr to say i was fit to fly when i was pregnant but the airline said it wasn't an issue until later in pregnancy but i had the letter anyway

Many women fly while pregnant and have no difficulties. We recommend that you discuss your travel plans with your doctor before flying, particularly during the later stages of pregnancy.

We require you to travel with medical clearance during pregnancy if the following applies:

* Pregnancy with complications.
* Multiple pregnancies after 34 weeks.
* Normal pregnancy after 36 weeks

Jetstar-
If you are pregnant and your travel is Domestic Travel:

* you have a normal pregnancy , no medical clearance is required.
* you have a complicated pregnancy , medical clearance is required.
* you have an uncomplicated multiple pregnancy , medical clearance is not required provided travel is completed by the end of the 36 th week of pregnancy. There must be 28 Days between the date travel is completed and the date on which you are due to give birth. You must carry a letter from a registered/licensed medical practitioner stating that your pregnancy is progressing normally and specifying the date on which you expect to give birth.

If your travel is International Carriage:

* you have a normal pregnancy, all of your travel must be completed by the end of the 36th week of your pregnancy. There must be 28 Days between the date travel is completed and the date on which you are due to give birth. You must also carry a letter from a registered/licensed medical practitioner stating that your pregnancy is progressing normally, and specifying the date on which you expect to give birth.
* you have a complicated pregnancy, medical clearance is required.
* you have an uncomplicated multiple pregnancy, medical clearance is not required provided travel is completed by the end of the 32nd week of pregnancy. There must be 56 Days between the date your travel is completed and the date on which you are due to give birth. You must carry a letter from a registered/licensed medical practitioner stating that your pregnancy is progressing normally, and specifying the date on which you are due to give birth.

Medical clearance is only required if you are having complications of pregnancy. International travel is not permitted after the 36th week for routine pregnancies or the 32nd week for routine multiple pregnancies. Some countries place limitations on the entry of non-national pregnant women. It is best to check with the local embassy or consulate if in any doubt.

For domestic travel, there is no restriction for a normal uncomplicated pregnancy but medical clearance is required if you wish to travel past the 36th week for uncomplicated multiple pregnancy.

Yep, 36 weeks. My dr told me they only put the restriction on domestic flights because they don't want you to go into labour or have bub on the plane, not because there are any medical risks.

Ok cool, thanks everyone. At least the airlines are ok with it (I was wanting to go to QLD around 32/33 weeks for a week stay) and being that I'm on the small side and not noticabley pregnant I should be fine. I still think my OB said it had something to do with flying causing premature labour but cannot find any data on internet to support this.

My OB didn't want me to travel more than an hour away from the hospital after 31 weeks as he had bad experiences with patients going into early labour in other states and having to spend months in hospital away from their home state. In these situations there is nothing the OB can do. So it may be that yours is being conservative due some bade experiences.

I flew with DD at 34 weeks interstate - and then recently at 22 weeks.

At 32-33 you should be fine as long as your preg is progressing normally.
