Question When does a fever become a concern in pregnancy?

I've been feeling a bit off all day & now I am sitting with the aircon on, knowing it is still hot (37deg outside) but have goose bumps and am shivering. I checked & my temp is at 38deg so slightly elevated, but nothing severe as yet. What sort of a temp is a concern in pregnancy & what should I do? Same stuff as babies, tepid shower, limited clothing, panadol... I have a headache (which isn't unusual for me) and feel nauseaus as well, otherwise all good.

Sarah it sounds like you are suffering from heat stroke!
Even though you have the air con on, your body it still as hot as it would be outside. If it was me, I'd be having a cool shower, having cool cloths on my forehead, and drinking heaps of water..
    Hoping you feel better soon.

    Hi,

I've read once fever gets over 38.9 degrees then it can be trouble. I think you're right to do the same stuff as for babies. I'd definitely take some Panadol as it's known to lower temp.

Hate to say it but this sounds exactly like what Zander was going through the other day. I'd definitely go to the hospital and get a checkup JIC.

    Hi Sarah
You poor thing you are having a bit of a rough time.
If your temp goes over 39.5 and you cant get it down within 1 hou go get checked.
    To help bring it down
    Cool showers
Cold washer on back of neck and wrists.
Spray bottle of water. Sprey exposed skin and sit near fan
Panadol 2 every 4-6 hours. No more than 8 tabs in 24 hours
    Drink lots of cold water
    Hope you feel better soon

Sarah - the goosebumps and shivering are the body trying to bring your temperature up. Once it reaches the maximum you will feel hot / hot to touch and not feel cold / shivery anymore. All the things Alan suggested are good. Keep up your fluids. Get checked if you are worried but PM me if you need to go to a hospital in the area - I have contacts

Well it peaked at 39deg on Sunday evening which was a bit scary. Panadol wasn't helping for much longer than an hour. I was still feeling quite sick yesterday morning & very thrirsty & no matter how much I was drinking I was still thirsty. So I called to see my Dr & was told he was booked out, so I asked to speak to him over the phone. He told me to come in ASAP which I did & we discovered I have a severe case of tonsilitis. It was odd because my throat wasn't that sore, it is moreso today though. I'm on antibiotics now & feel 1000 times better today than I did yesterday!

Sarah, sorry to hear that you haven't been well. I am glad that you saw the dr. and are now on the road to recovery
