Default Finally pregnant but now who do I see???

    hi there ladies (and gents)

Finally we got a positive result after 3 years of TTC and 15 months of IVF. After the nurse rang to tell me the good news (Melbourne IVF)...she said to make an appointment with my FS for a scan in 3 weeks.

This is great and I will go, but does this mean I have to go through my FS for everything (all scans etc and any treatment) from here on in my pregnancy? we don't have private insurance.

I really do like my FS, he is a kind and professional man. But we are concerned about the costs involved. My first pregnancy I did a midwife program at a local public hospital and it did not cost a cent!

Some specialists also work as an OB and expect to continue as your OB once they have finished being your FS.

BUT - this does not mean you need to continue seeing them!

My FS does not work as an OB at all, but he still does the scan somewhere between 6-7 weeks of pregnancy to check that everything is ok.

I would imagine that a trip to your GP would reveal your options more fully.

    Hi Runnermum,
Firstly congratulations, that is great news that you are pregnant after IVF. Most IVF clinics organise a 6 or 7 week scan but then it is really up to you what you do. My FS did not do obstetrics as well so I went to the local public hospital. as you have already had a child, there is no reason why this IVF pregnancy should need any special care, but I am sure it feels more precious. But if your FS is an OB as well, you could stay but yes it would be expensive. good luck with it all.

    Congratulations

Our FS & clinic said that they would look after me until I had my first OB/hospital appointment. I had my u/s organised through them at 7 weeks & had an appointment with my GP (I did shared care) at 6 weeks. So essentially I haven't seen the clinic since I was 7 weeks pregnant, in September last year.

    Hi Runnermum,

My FS is great they will do an introductory letter for me and hand me over to the OBGYN in public hospital as we don't have private insurance either. We have to go for our 7 week scan too in 3 weeks, I think my FS monitors us until we come off all the fertility drugs (around 12 weeks) and then hands us over.

    Hi Runnermum,

How are you feeling? Have you got the date for your 3 week ultrasound to confirm your bub? Mine is on the 17th June and I can't wait. I have been feeling the nausea throughout the day and just smile to myself as it is a nice reminder that I am finally pregnant.

Anyway I hope all is well with you.
