ok so i need some help and your ideas here girls...
well as you know today miss c had her ears done and the chemist here in town has none of that ear spray left,nore did the beauty salon so im useing medi wipes is there anything else i can use ??
i would just use salt water - alcohol wipes may be a bit too drying on sensitive ears. E had hers done at 12 weeks and when i left the spray at mum's, that is what i used
oh thanks bg i really appriciate your help as i had no idead ,and i was truely hopeing you would answer knowing e had hers done ,so thanks hun and salt water it will bewhat about if i even took her down to the beach and used some of that water today ?
I'm still here, just been very busy lately. Just a question for our mums with older bubs..... Tara was up about 3am last night vomiting and also had a couple of bouts of diarrohea (sp??). She didn't have a temp and she wasn't upset or cranky about the vomit everywhere. After I stripped her down, gave her a wash and dressed her again she thought it might be a good time to have a play and she even had 1/2 a bottle at 5am this morning, which she never does but I think it might be because her tummy was empty. So anyway this morning, she was up bright and early and seems like nothing is wrong at all. She has had her morning bottle and is now back in bed catching up on the sleep she missed last night.
Any ideas what it might be??? Maybe just a bit of a tummy bug, or could it be teething?? The MCHN told me last Thursday that Tara has no sign of any teeth at this stage and she thinks she is a long way off getting them (I was 18mths before I got my first tooth)... but could she have been wrong..
Anyway off to get the washing out of the machine, had to wash al the spewy clothes and bed clothes from last night .
Hi Kelly, I guess I'd keep an eye on her and definately watch out for a fever or anything else untoward. Sometimes they just throw up or have the runs, and then seem fine, so hopefully it's nothing to worry about.
i probably wouldnt go out of my way to go to the beach - if you make a salt water mix at home, you'll know it's "clean" - at the beach, there is a risk that there may be some contamination. plus, you make up one lot, let it cool and cover it, and you can use it for days and days at home
Kelly, it sounds like a bug hun. keep an eye on Tara and if she is in any way different to her normal self (less energetic, more sooky, temp or spewy/runny nappies) pop off to the doctor to get her checked. i know she's only six months, and from memory i can't recall what point you're at with introducing other fluids, but i would suggest having some water available for her to sip at all day and keep an eye out for signs of dehydration (sunken fontanel is a key sign, dry mouth if she puts her finger in your mouth...). if she wants more drink today, do small amounts so as not to overload her little tummy - it will be rather sensitive and if it gets overloaded she will just sick it all up again.

AFU - started back at work yesterday. no tears, no tanties - hell, i don't think she even noticed i was gone!! i guess that's the upside of gradually increasing the time we spent with my folks the past few months - spending a day with granma wasn't abnormal! work was as BORING as all get up - i missed the interaction with my girl - but i survived. they're not fully retraining me, which annoys me (not trying to brag, but i'm good at my job) - they're paying me good money to be a glorified receptionist. oh well, at least i'm still getting paid good money! E is in a fantastic mood today - she slept 12 hours last night with two feeds (dream feed when i went to bed, and another when Daddy got up for work) and is so chipper today. i was worried she'd be over tired after her day at Granmas, but she had a sleep for 20 mins yest morning, 2.5hours at lunch, and then 10 or 15mins in the car on the way home - so she obviously found a sleep pattern that worked - she's now on the other side of the foot stool from me, doing all she can to get at my drink - laughing, chatting, smiling - sooooooooo glad i'm not having to try and "sort" an overtired monkey today - i've got MY girl! woot!

oh yeh bg i didnt even think about the water being yukky so ive just made up a mixture like you said and covered it over so now i guess i just dip a cotton ball into it then clean her ears with that ?

So happy to hear that starting back at work wasn't too bad for you and E. Oh, I have been giving Tara water for a few weeks now, especially when she had her cold a couple of weeks ago to make sure she stays hydrated. I gave her some last night after she vomited to help get the horrible bile taste from her mouth and to also keep up her fluids seeing we had it coming out the other end as well. I keep a sippy cup near her at all times now as she is clever enough to pick it up and put in her mouth if she wants a drink.
I think I might also cut out solids for a couple of days as well and just stick to bottles and water to help her little tummy settle down as well. it's just a 24 hour bug thing. Come to think of it, I think it was from swimming on Monday as the instructor mentioned that some kid had an accident in the pool... O.K I'm angry now...
Smithy I think anything like medi wipes will work ok, did you order some spray too?
BW teaching is hard work, hope it all settles down for you.

Hi To Kelly and Marcellus.
ATM wonder week alert. Linc is very clingy and very fussy, he wants to be fed when he wakes only about 20mls then play for a bit (not long) then change then another 80mls then screaming and very fussy, put him into his sleeping sack then he wants 20+mls while being rocked in his room. OMG I'm exhausted, he also woke up at midnight last night, 3am then 5am and was a big fussy boy till he finally pooed at 6.30 (STINKY) and it's been fussy pot since.
I start work tonight and have nothing organised cos he wouldn't settle for DH last night at all. I'm exhausted. and so is Lincoln that's why he's cranky I think.
Kelly - sounds like a bit of a bug. Not nice, but the fact that Tara is happy and her behaviour hasn't changed is a good sign. They are pretty good at picking up bugs, but pretty good at getting over them too. Not fun for you though!
BG - aw, I'm sure she missed you lots. But easier to know that you have such a balanced settled wee girl that she is content when she is with grandma and you are gone. Mr L still is funny sometimes when i drop him at ODC, but i know it's good for him, otherwise it's just mummy all day every day.
BW - I want a holiday too - and I don't even work! Teaching's a tough job, and I respect all those who do it, especially with some of the behaviours that teenagers seem to think are acceptable these days.
Green - good luck at work tonight. I'm sure Linc will be settled and fine - they always play up for their mummy!

Thanks, guys. I really appreciate having messages of support like that... Some days are rough, and I think today was worse than yesterday, and I'm just exhausted. Teenagers are hard to work with, but the job is rewarding as well. It is nice to hear that the teaching profession is valued by some - even if it's not necessarily the parents of the kids I teach!
Funnily enough, we just had the conversation about how if it weren't for the money we wouldn't do it... but a lot of that feeling here is from the extra stuff we have to do - paperwork and the political nonsense in schools.
Hopefully DH will arrive here very soon to pick me up and I can get my fix of Sam cuddles... and then get back to preparing a lesson to be observed by my HOD tomorrow.
BW I couldn't be a teacher and especially not a High School teacher, so my hats off to you girl... I think teachers are so unrewarded for the time and effort they put into other peoples kids... So no matter what you always have us girls cheering you from the sidelines..

BW - teaching is such an important and challenging job. I so admire teachers - I used to teach ballet, and I can tell you it certainly made my respect for teachers go through the roof! Hi to Marcellus, Lenny and anyone I have missed.
AFU - I am pleased to report that I have a child who is 100% healthy (knock on wood - don't want to jinx myself). This operation and the medication are like a miracle. We had gotten so used to Jazzy being sick that it was starting to feel normal. It is only now that she is well that I can really look back and appreciate how sick she was and for how long! She managed 2 days at nursery this week. We kept her home with my DH on Wednesday as we just didn't feel she was quite ready, but she went on Thursday and Friday. She was very tired at the end of each day, but that is pretty much the norm when they are at nursery. She was a little teary at drop off but nothing too bad. And - oh my goodness - she is EATING!!! Her lack of eating was obviously related to her not feeling well. I thought she was still getting used to some foods prior to the operation, but it now appears that her lack of appetite was probably a result of the illness. When she was at nursery prior we were lucky if she had a taste of her lunch. Well I am proud to report that on both days at nursery this week she ate ALL of her lunch and ALL of her desert! So proud of her.
We are now down to 3 milk feeds a day (1 booby and 2 bottle). I am about to start weaning her off formula and onto cows milk - I was just waiting on her feeling better, so we may even start on that today. Can anyone whose baby is over a year old tell me if they are still using bottles or if they give the milk in a sippy cup? Jazzy has water from a sippy cup, but I am wondering if I should be starting to get her off the bottle for milk times also. Any advice on this change over would be hugely appreciated, it is all so confusing! She is also in the process of going down to 1 day sleep - some days she does only one, others (like today) she still needs the two.

Janie, Sam still has bottles for milk. He drinks water from a sippy cup and likes to play and pretend that he's drinking from our cups. He probably doesn't really need the bottle, but he still can't tolerate cows milk and it's so much easier to mix formula in a bottle rather than a sippy cup! It's such a relief to hear that your little girl is well again after so long!
