just a quick one from me this morning - i'm sure i'll come back and waffle more later but thought i'd get this out seeing i didn't get to post yesterday (talk about BB withdrawals!)
anyway - seen Ob for first time yesterday - have realised that it's at least a 45 minute trip to the hospital where i'll be birthing - yay! that's gonna be fun in labour! Ob was great. BP was normal for the first time whole pregnancy - not borderline high this time! woot! urine was clear of everything, so looks like UTI is gone (which sounds about right - ab's are starting to give me thrush now so they must be done fighting the bad things!). he tok a really thorough history, actually LISTENED when i said about some of the things concerning me (insulin resistance/impaired gluose tolerance in the past, the fact i can feel if my sugars get to low etc) - is sending me for the extended GTT next week, which is about 10 hours early but given my history, he'd rather do it early - if all is good with that one, i'll have the normal one at 26ish weeks. he did a brief scan just to check the gremlin - no measurements, but he let us hear the heartbeat which was amazing, and printed a piccie of our little alien-faced baby - for some reason, this kidlet doesn't like giving profile shots! much less movement yesterday so we think maybe Gremlin was sleeping and only squirmed cos it was being disturbed!
he talked to us about braxton hicks contractions (did anyone else realise you get them even when not pg - and that all those on again off again pains early in pregnanccy are BH - i sure didn't! i thought it was more something that happened late in pregnancy!). he then said something that made me have a lot of respect for him. he told me that EVERY baby is precious, he doesn't subscribe to the idea that AC babies are more precious because every baby is a miracle - but he understands the emotional scarring from LTTTC so if i needed the kid gloves at any point, all i had to do was tell him. it's not the baby that needs different treatment, it's us. it's something i've thought a lot, but to hear the Ob say it was fantastic - we're on the same page!
some other stuff we talked through - IF i have GD that can't be controlled with diet, he won't put me back on oral meds like i've been on for the PCOS - it's something that isn't as yet proven to work, and his preference is to use something he knows will work as its better for the baby. he didn't discount the impact, just said he'd rather see more positive results before he risked any baby, and he hoped i'd be ok with that. as i said, i've jabbed myself enough, so if i have to have insulin shots, so be it. he then said if GD does develop, i'll be scanned at each visit - but said it wasn't about baby size, it's about checking blood flow to baby as GD can impact functionality of the placenta. size is not a big drama - a big baby can still be birthed - a baby with a failed placenta that isn't identified may not survive. OMG - he was so helpful. he talked a lot (we were warned of this) - but it wasn't about talking down to us, it was about making sure we were comfy with his philosophies and were ok with him as a doctor. for all the stress before hand, i have no drama putting this pregnancy in his hands
and to top it off, before we left, he said simply - we're not talking birth options for a long time yet - if you develop GD we might have to intervene, but i'm hoping we find you in hospital in natural labour in about 25 weeks time. yay - an ob that prefers natural progression of labour! woo hoo!
ok, so maybe it wasn't quick - but it was very self absorbed - sorry!
