hi renee - we are in the newcastle region as well but were forutnate enough to be invited to a 1st bday party on Sunday... a pool party!!! which was sooo great :)

babytruj - i had bleeding before my BT was due, so much so i thought AF had arrived and went into a BT at the clinic "so i could start my next FET asap'' lol Can you imagine my absolute astoishment when they rang and said "you're preg!" The numbers were low cos it was done so early but continue to climb! hope all goes well for you. I think throughout your entire pregnancy you worry... the worry just changes. I'm in the 12 week worry (graduated from the tww lol) and then it's the "no more scans til 20 weeks but can't feel movement yet'' worry and then it's the "is he/she moving enough worry''; then GT worry and then "why won't they stop moving" and it goes on and on.. and just wait til the bub arrives!!!

better go. somehow my child has managed to get entangled in a cooler bag... hmmmm oxo

BabyTruj, welcome and wishing you a H&H 9 months. I remember you from the LTTTC thread I'm pretty sure. Did you hyperstimulate for your 1st round and end up with something like 30-plus eggs?

CK, sorry to hear you and your DH are going through a rough patch. I am sure you will work it out and he will support you and be there for you during labour and beyond. Thanks for asking how I'm tracking. Placenta has moved up, now 3.8cm away from the cervix but needs to be 5 cm away to not be PP. So I'm graded minor PP but can have a spinal CS and be awake at the birth. Yay! The plan is to see if I can make it to 38 weeks, well two days shy of 38 weeks. I'm booked in for 8 December, so a maximum of 20 days to go. Yikes!

Re the debate about folic acid, I've been on 5mg since trying to conceive and all the way through this PG. My OB recommended it and even when I thought I could stop at 12 weeks as my levels were high and my understanding is it's only needed and important for the 1st trimester, he wanted me to stay on it. I wonder if it also helps with iron levels? Anyone know?

Hope you are all travelling along nicely and growing nice chubby bubba's.

Just a quick one to let you all know we had our NT scan today... YAY... Without having bloods our DS risk is 1:1170 so happy with that and now no need for a CVS or amnio.

Twin A (right side) was measuring at 13w and seemed to be taking up all the right side and the middle and Twin B (left side) was measuring at 13w 1d and was all squished up. Twin B has always measured 1 day bigger in every scan so far, but I'm happy as they were growing (measuring bigger than our actual dates) and very active jumping around everywhere.

So next scan in 4 weeks time and fingers crossed both babies are cooperative and we get to see what sex they wil be....

Leabie, I think I have at least one cat, too, as T2 does exactly the same thing under my ribs. Doesn't it hurt! If CK goes to term, then I'll be the next batter up. Yikes, that's quite scary. Seems very surreal to be at the bottom of the list one minute and second from the top the next! I'm booked for a CS on Wednesday, 8 December. Wish me luck, everyone!

Hi to everyone else. :hello: Sounds like you're all travelling along well!

Hopefully today we will finally finish this d*mn report that had me working a 65 hour week last week (hence no time to post, although I did pop in to check up on everyone). I also hope this means my BP will be back down to normal at this week's OB appt (was up a little at the last one and I'm hoping it was just due to stress). 24 work days to go (including today)...

Other than that, it's still smooth sailing here.

gone home early from work. I finish up this Friday and realistically I should have finished last Friday. I've had constant period pain for the last 3-4 days. Today I can't really walk properly and everyone that saw me at work said it looked like I was about ready to have this baby. Bub is full term in about 6 days. I am not sure if I overdid it on the weekend - broke up a 2km walk with an hour or so of tile grouting at DH's Mum's island shack (Macleay Island, near Stradbroke Island). 1km from ferry to the shack, I walked it easy. Grouting on hands and knees, not an issue. 1km walk back to Ferry - piece of p!ss. But now I feel terrible! Did I overdo it or is this the lead up to labour? The period pain preceeded the weekend walk so I'm hoping this is the lead up. I don't want 3-4 more weeks of feeling this terrible!!

Maybe I'm just trying to beat Brunette into hospital ;-)

Juniper, I really hope those 24 days go quickly for you. That will give you a nice break in between to get all those last minute things done. FX your blood pressure is on the decrease.

Congrats Kelly on your NT scan results. Such a load off isn't it when everything is progressing nicely. If you find out the sexes at the next scan, are you keeping it between you and DH or are you letting the cat out?

Okay, WHOOPING COUGH: I've told anyone in my family who will be visiting from Townsville that they will need to get vaccinated due to there being a bit of an epidemic currently. Everyone has been great, EXCEPT for one of my sisters who's response was "no-one got vaccinated before they held MY babies. Why don't you just get the baby done?" Grrrrrr!! I thought it might have been the cost factor so offered to pay for it. Now she is saying that she doesn't think she can get it done as a few years ago had a bad rash from antibiotics for bronchitis, and when she went in to get swine flu vaccine they said because of her reaction to previous antibiotics to not bother about the swine flu vaccine - hence she doesn't think they'll give her the whooping cough vaccine. It all sounds like garbage to me. I've told her that she wont be staying at my house or coming near my baby. Is that b*tchy of me? She said she wishes she'd known that I am requesting vaccinations for everyone before she booked non-refundable plane flights. Imagine if *touch wood this doesn't happen* baby contracted it and got really sick or died, how would she feel knowing that it was her fault and that a simple little vaccine would have prevented it??? Okay, I'm ranting now because I'm really annoyed with her. Told her to ring the doctor and check, she said she gets home too late from work to ring them but she'd TRY to call them during the day (gee, don't go out of your way there!). Aaaagh! don't need this stress.

Well I've reserved Birth Skills at the local library, just waiting for it to come in.

Okay, I have to go drink a bottle of scotch now (kidding) to try to destress. Damn family, why does there always have to be one!!

CK, is it worth you asking your Dr if there's any conceivable reason why your sister couldn't get the vaccine? Even if she thinks you're being over-protective (and I say that knowing that I would do exactly the same, so it's not a criticism), you have every right to be as protective as you feel is necessary! If she can't be bothered finding out whether she can safely take the vaccine, then the problem is hers. As you say, the potential consequences of her giving bub the disease far outweigh any inconvenience to her. I hope this week passes quickly for you and you can put your feet up for a few weeks before bub arrives.

ps. I couldn't help but lol at your comment about trying to beat Brunette to the hospital and got a funny look from someone walking past.

Afm, I'm still waiting for my boss to provide his input for this report. Good to know my rush to get it finished by COB Friday was worth the effort... Now not holding my breath on it being done today. :(

AFM, I did the glucose challenge test and had an instant though I guess mild panic attack (with nausea) and kind of spent a lot of the day crying (just a sense of dread and anxiety - I think my blood sugar was out of control). The nurse said it's quite common though and that it's a really harsh test. Wow. So glad I didn't know how bad it would be going in. Oops, prob shouldn't have said that for the other ladies who've not done it. OB says baby growing well (from the feel) and maybe even a bit ahead of time. The head is down for right now, but not engaged or anything. Anyway, they move heaps apparently so it's kind of just nice to know but not particularly relevant for later.

Okay must dash and hope everyone going well.

WW, your experience with the GTT sounds nasty. To reassure others yet to have theirs, mine was no problems. I didn't mind the taste of the drink or get a sugar rush or anything, and didn't have gestational diabetes. Glad to hear bub is growing well and head is down.

Juniper, hope your BP is in the normal range and 24 days of work flies by for you.

CK, you poor thing. Those pains sound horrible. Try to take it easy, hey? Your sister sounds like she's being a real cow. Whooping cough is an epidemic ATM so why can't people just do the right thing? We've got a similar problem here. Most family members have now had a booster shot but my brothers haven't and I haven't asked them, and neither has one brother's wife and mother who's from China. I doubt they would have ever had a vaccine against it in their lives. My brother's wife, so my SIL, is undergoing chemo for cancer and I don't want to ask them to get vaccinated or put them through anything else. But I'm really worried about them holding the babies. It's so hard, isn't it? I too was :ROFL: at your comment that you were trying to beat me to give birth. And now I'm laughing because Juniper got a funny look from one of her work colleagues while laughing at your post!

Has anyone written out a birth plan or birth preferences? I just knocked something out today but it's pretty compact as I really only have to cover a spinal or a general caesarean option.

Wow- I have been away for a few days and so much has happened!

Congrats Miss K- Exciting as well since that means I'm 4th from the top now! Aggghhhhhhh!!

CK- Sounds like things might be ramping up for you- I hope this is all a sign that things are going to happen soon and you're not one of those unlucky women who have pre-labour for weeks.

Brunette- I have written up 4 dot points. I don't want to call it a birth plan as I don't think you can plan these things. My four are:
-don't offer drugs, I'll ask if I want them
-I don't consent to an episiotomy unless baby is in acute distress, I would rather tear naturally if I need to
-no forceps, they can use vacuum if necessary but no forceps at all
-leave the cord to pulsate for at least 90 secs before clamping

That's it. everything else can just go with the flow so to speak.

Okay CK that really annoyed me about your sister! what a cow! she sounds very immature. I've put in two links below you might show miss holier than thou that the threat is real and not imagined. Then i'd get onto the rest of the family and start whinging to them so they all start putting the hard word on her.

I absolutely think you have done the right thing. and the fact she's causing you this stress is even worse. I hope your DH or mum or someone else steps up and gives her a good talking to. Maybe it's her way to create a bit of drama around herself cos you are in the limelight with the baby!!!

Birth plan - I didn't write one. I talked to my ob and new she was very hands off. Dh knew what we were going for and i didn't feel any pressure or interference from the middies at our hospy. Mind you one had me on the bed for "monitoring" for ages and I ended up saying "i'm getting off the bed" in a very grumpy, i'm in labour don't mess iwth me voice. My best advice is it's YOUR labor. You labor and birth in whatever position you want, not what suits someone else.
Oh and if you are writing a birth plan, one thing i highly recommend is to say you want to pull the baby out. i know sounds scary and i never even considered this but my OB said to me "reach down now and grab your son"; I was like "WHAT" and with a few words of encouragement I pulled my baby onto my chest. It was the most precious, most amazing experience in my life. And dh took a pic... my face is a classic it's wide-eyed with a "what the effff" expression on it lol.

sorry not a lot of persies. surrounded by boxes as moving day is on thursday! and trying to do it with a now walking 11month old is proving difficult. He's into everything he shouldn't be, unpacking things that have just been packed, whinging and generally driving me nuts!!! and to boot he decided last night he wanted a bottle at 3am! usually it's 5 or 6am!!! and he still wanted his other morning bottle!!! I think someone knows something major is happening!!!!

I think you and I are at roughly the same stage. I am 6 weeks today. It would be nice to keep in touch knowing we are going through a similar stage.

On a different note. I had a big anxiety 'attack' today. I have been feeling fine up until this morning when I got up for work and then had what felt like period pain and diarrhoea (sorry if TMI). I phoned up my local GP and nurse who was fantastic and they have just done another blood test to check my beta levels to reassure me.

Also, I'm having trouble deciding on a private OB vs using GP/midwife clinic. Our local hospital is much nearer than the private hospital that does deliveries. I can deliver at our local public and then transfer to a private hospital that does post natal care only which is what I'm thinking of doing. I had heard that even though I have private health insurance it costs a lot out of pocket to have a private OB which is really annoying as I've paid for a few years to have PHI. Has anyone else delivered in the public system?

I thought going through IVF was insanely stressful and it is but I thought I would calm down when I found out I was pregnant and it just seems to be a whole other stress. I just want to enjoy being pregnant with no worrying twinges and pains and symptoms

Grub - thank you for the links - they will come in handy. I STILL haven't heard from d*ckhead sister regarding what her doctor said, (that's IF she has managed to find the 5 minutes to call them). And yes, considering she's 42yrs old, she IS immature.
I forgot to ask the midwife at my appt this morning but will be sure to ask at next week's appt if there is a valid reason to not get the vaccine.

Can I just say that I teared up reading what you wrote about delivering your son. I never realised that you would be flexible enough to reach down and pull him out?! I had mentioned to DH that I would like him to run down the 'messy' end when it was time and help to deliver the baby but I never realised I could deliver the baby myself. That's definitely something I will ask the OB at next week's appt. (coz I think DH really wants to steer clear of 'that end').

Good luck with your move on Thursday, I hope the morning sickness combined with the moving doesn't stress you out too much.

Glenny - can you explain about the cord being left to pulsate before clamping? Is the idea of that to give baby a smoother introduction? I think your 'birth plan' of sorts is brilliant and very similar to what I am hoping for (the lack of drugs being pushed on me, and the episiotomy)

Brunette - something tells me you're still gonna beat me. The midwife today (as OB is still overseas so my appts lately have been with midwives) said that it could happen in the next week or the next few weeks. I just wish there was some way to know when it will likely happen!! So frustrating!!

Abj - I'm private. My OB fee (planning & management fee payable at 20wks) was $1900 however this fee differs with each OB so do the ring around first if cost is a deciding factor. Each appt is about $70 but because of IVF I exceeded the medicare cap, I get $63 back for each of those visits. Scans are a bit more pricey (about $120) but you don't need many scans. It's good that you can deliver public then go private, I didn't even realise that was an option.

CK77- There are lots of reasons to leave the cord to pulsate before clamping. If you do a google search on delayed cord clamping there are heaps of articles. This is a good one that Kelly wrote: Cord Blood - Why Delaying Cord Clamping Benefits Your Baby

The world health organisation recommend waiting at least 90 secs. Are you with Dr Titiz? I know there was other girls here seeing him. He's not terribly supportive about delayed clamping, he doesn't understand it. But he knows it's what we want and he's willing to do it if it's our wishes. Of course, if baby is in acute distress then it's a bit different.

Glenny, thanks for the link on the delayed clamping. That's something I've been thinking about and want to get into my birth plan.

CK, I think one of the downsides some Drs claim about delayed clamping is that it can make jaundice more likely. There's others who disagree and babies who didn't have delayed clamping can get jaundice anyway. I only mention it in case you decide you want to do it and your Dr tries to scare you with the jaundice thing. I hope your sister gets her act together soon.

abj, I had period-like cramping regularly through to 15wks, so hopefully it's all normal uterine growth that you're feeling. I hope the beta levels are perfect.

WW, sorry to hear you found the GCT so trying. I hope you passed it so you don't have to do the longer one.

Afm, the report is SENT!! Just before I had to leave on Tuesday afternoon I was able to finalise it all and send it off. I was starting to think it would be haunting me forever!

Had an OB appt this morning and my BP was back down a little. Normally had been 120/70, then last time was 130/80 and today 125/75. With the headache I've had the last few days I really did think it was climbing, so I'm glad I was wrong. Bub was breech again and had her arms stretched up over her head (no wonder I can't breath - I think she's deliberately pushing my organs up into my chest as high as she can! ;)).

Taking tomorrow off work, but not sure how much rest I'll get as we've got someone coming to service/repair the a/c's and will also have people installing our new patio (yay!!). I'm hoping DH takes the day off as well so I can relax. Then we've got our antenatal classes on the weekend. Busy times...

Update on idiot sister: I have researched the wazoo out of the pertussis vaccines (there's about a dozen different 'brands') and none of them contain penicillin which she is claiming to be allergic to. So no excuses for her! And info for everyone else, your family members will pay about $40 for the vaccination but can take to their private health fund for a partial rebate.

Juniper - yay, you're FINALLY getting the patio!! that's been a long time coming (or maybe it just seems that way as time seems to be dragging!). And the weather is just perfect for afternoons on the deck - not too hot.

My last day of work tomorrow - and then I can put these 'sausage feet' up and try to drain some of this retained fluid away!

Just a quick update and apologies for no persies today:

I saw my OB this morning and he's happy with everything, my blood pressure, babies heart beats, both head down, iron levels are great. He then did an exam where he felt for the positioning of the babies. When he pushed on T1's head, he said that the uterus was a bit irritable, perhaps signs of contractions happening. Before he did the exam he was going to give me two steroid shots starting next Monday. After the exam he changed his mind and I got one shot today and will get DH to give me the second tomorrow. Yikes, are these babies going to come before the 8th? I'm not ready! I still have a long list of names, not a short list!

Renee - I thought you were less than 47 days to go?

Brunette - awesome news that both babies are head down! Those contractions wouldn't have been braxton hicks, he's sure they are proper ones? What do the steroid shots do? (other than make you a MEGA STRONG PREGNANT WOMAN?) ;-)

CK - weird!! It should say 29 (God don't wish 47 on me!!!!). My computer says 29 on my ticker, weird no one else can see it.

HI to everyone I have missed

AFM - No real news, bubs is kicking and doing stuff it's supposed to. Have my glucose test this week but remember it clearly from my DD so know what to expect. Have cleared bub's room but haven't bought a cot as am hoping that in five months time when it's ready to move to one by DD will be ready for her big girl bed (if not will get one of course). Haven't really spent anytime thinking about bubs as my DD and DH's business take up all my headspace!

Wow brunette! Getting interesting.... if you go into labor can you give it a go? I cant remember if you had PP or someone else.

airline, enjoy Port Douglas! I wanted to go there for a babymoon, but we could never get the time off work.

Afm, I'm just completely over work. Is that normal to happen so early? I honestly don't know how women manage to work until their due dates. I think anyone who manages that is just amazing! 3.5 weeks to go and I desperately wish today were my last day... I'm finding sitting in this chair very uncomfortable some days (today is one of them) and I just want to go home and lie down so I can stretch out... :(

Sorry for the whinge. I do still think I've gotten off lightly with physical symptoms so far and am appreciative of that.

Anyway, Friday didn't go as planned - it rained so the patio guys gave up and left after a couple of hours and then the a/c man never showed up (great first impression for a new customer). The guys are finishing the patio today (if all went well - they were working on it when we left for work) and the a/c man visited on Saturday (after I rang on Friday afternoon and complained - they don't normally work weekends and they then didn't charge us for servicing the machines, so at least they were serious about making amends for deleting our appointment). Antenatal classes on the weekend were good, but I was surprised by how much I already knew. I guess I spend too much time online?

We also ordered a cradle on Saturday and we were told it will be a 6 week wait. Needless to say, I'm now panicking about all the things we haven't bought yet. I just wasn't ready to buy any big things before now (still not ready to be honest) and suddenly we may be out of time.

Brunette has had her beautiful babies A Boy and A Girl. She has them yesterday at 8.45pm. Her blood pressure was high and there was protein in urine so they had to come out! Babies are perfect and neither needed special nursery care, both were born crying and both are feeding off the breasts. They do have low blood sugar however so they do need a formula feed.
Names are yet to be decided on but i will keep you posted if i hear anything!!
