The only times I've had internal u/s is when I've been referred to check my ovaries for cysts. They have to go internal to see the ovaries. For my bub, it was straight on my belly.
True about the pap smear. If you get an idiot doctor they will hurt
Even when I had my balloons inserted for induction, the obs that did it took 15 minutes of mucking about, then called his boss to do it cos he couldn't find my cervix, he had no idea what he was doing. That's when I found out it was retroverted.
I've also been told I have a retroverted uterus... I'm told it doesn't affect chances of conception or miscarriage in any way...
I did read somewhere though that sometimes in the early stages of a pregnancy it can get 'caught' on or under one of the pelvic bones (called an 'incarcerated uterus') and that can cause some issues with urination, but that it usually rights itself or can be manually 'tweaked' into place.
Also, I find papsmears to be unfailingly painful, also IUIs, I usually get bad period pain in my lower back, and I've never had an external ultrasound show anything helpful - only dildo-cam for me!
I've ever only had one pap test, and that never hurt at all. Just felt a bit weird with the speculum, I barely felt the swab thing, and it was all over within a minute. Maybe I just had a really good doctor!
