2nd Ob's appointment tomorrow, what to expect?

I have my 2nd Ob's appointment tomorrow. What is he likely to do in this visit, will he do a physical? My first appointment he didn't even check my blood pressure or weight me which I thought was strange.

um things he might do are
    - check ur BP (yes he will do this and if he doesnt find a new OB or ask him to check it)
    - feel ur tummy
    - measure fundal height
    - give you a refferal for ur 18-20 week u/s.
    - take a pee sample
    - he might weigh u but i doubt it.
    - listen to the heartbeat (dont expect this, every doc is different and some dont like to do this with a hh doppler till after 20 weeks)

HTH and have fun! hope all goes well!!!
*freaks out that u are already 16 weeks!*

I know every week that goes by now seems to fly past. Which is fine by mean cause that means that winter is flying past too! How do they measure the fundal height and what is it?

they get a tape measure and measure from your pubic bone to the top of ur uterus. Its not an accurate measurement and alot of places dont do it. But for 16 weeks you should "in theroy" be measuring 16 cm. Tho at my 24 week appointment i was measuring about 30. As i said alot of ppl dont do it but i put it on the list coz he might do it

Ah thanks for explaining that. Will he do an internal? I don't really want one but would like to prepare myself if he is likely to do that if you know what I mean?

    hi puppies

My OB has never taken a pee sample or measured me. He usually just feels my tummy and uses a doppler to hear the heartbeat. He also takes my BP and that's it! No internals here.

nah he wont do an internal. theres no need to. But as i said the list is there to show u things he "might" do but even at my appointments.. i only got weighed 1st appointment, um i get the fundal height measured, listen to bubs heart beat, feels me tummy and checks BP.

The internals usually dont start till your over 30 weeks unless something goes wrong such as an infection. Not that docs check for infections but some do. Everyones different.

well I just came back from the appointment and it was great. He did an ultra sound and we got the see the baby again and see the heart beat. Dr said it is a strong heart beat. I wasn't expecting that so its made my day. We could see it moving its hand around again and it was very active. It was so reassuring to see the baby again. He check me wee for sugar and proteins and it came up clear. He checked my BP and that was excellent. He also weighed me and said its good that I have only put on 1kg and said that means that I am eating healthy and that I will gain more weight as the baby grows. We chatted a bit and I was on my way. I will see him again on the 21st after my next scan to discuss the results. So I am stocked with what he did. I have come out of the office feeling like I am on cloud 9. Thanks for your advice girls.

Hi. You shouldn't really have an internal til labour. Just so you know.
I was only weighed once during my last pregnancy & only had 1 pee test. But for my other two I was weighed each time & had a pee test each time. They don't worry too much these days about them.
& don't worry too much about your fundal height. It's not 100% accurate.
