Does anyone else have a placental lake and low lying placenta?

So girls.. I am almost 18wks (on monday) and this sunday past I started bleeding (TMI) first brown then red- I FREAKED and then brown and scanty til tuesday. I had few docs apps and ultrasound and was referred to a specialist in the fetal medicinal unit (scary name!) in RNSH. They found a big blood clot in my placenta (where bub is also) .. I have been advised to quit work and take it easy ( i nannyed a 2yr old full time) and cant do any straining activities.. They are keeping an eye on things..

I am scared cos i dont really have alot of info about this and wondered if anyone has had or currently has this issue..

any info would be much appreciated...

    x

hopeful we are in the same position. I just had my scan today which showed I had multiple large placental lakes and I'm quietly freaking out. It also showed I had way more then normal placental vessels and to me tyhe placenta looked all wrong (been a midwife I've seen many) it was all lumpy and bumpy like a bunch of grapes.

I know we all have placental lakes and their normal but they shouldn't comment on them unless they are larger then normal. I also have a low lying placenta which I had with my last baby and it moved so that doesn't concern me but the lakes do.

Have you got any more info on it? I don't have an appointment with my Ob until 3weeks unless he calls me before hand. My scan also hasn't been read by the radiologist just the sonographer that did it and then other who came in to confirm she hadn't seen a lake/s as big as mine. Not very reasurring!

Hi Mildez- its somewhat comforting to know someone else has this problem and im not alone! When i saw the lake it was huge! about the size of babys head! and baby was kicking it too! am having a second ultrasound at the specialist this week (wednesday) so im going to ask for all the info i can get! Will post on here as soon as i know...

My biggest lake was huge also and you could see all the blood swirling around and running into it and back out. I had lots of them and she did say they were all large but one did stand out over then others. It was a bit freaky to watch. With all the lakes and the extra vessels I have I wont be going far from home soon. I worry if I start bleeding it will be massive and fortunately I'm only a few kms away from the hospital. Atleast its our blood however not the babies so thats good to know. We have more to loose! What I have read on it says it doesn't increase your riosk of haemorrage small or growth restricted babies or stillbirth etc so perhaps its just a bizare variation of normal.

One thing I have noticed which I haven't with my other pregnancies is a very hot feeling inside at times down where the placenta is and I bet its the lakes full of blood making that hot feeling.

Do you know what gender your bub is? We are having a little girl. I'm so excited.

I'm also considering going on a BD starvation. Worried it might upset one of them. Haven't done it and dont plan to since finding out. Maybe I'm just been a little to cautious.

It definatly is scary to watch on the screen... ive actually been advised to quit work - i am a nanny and job involved alot of bending, straining, lifting and pushing etc... i quit last week and that actually made me feel alot better knowing i could properly rest my body..
We find out tomorrow what were having- im sooooooooo excited- DH and I think (have "that" feeling) were having a girl.. we'll soon find out!! We have done the BD twice since finding out... at first i was much like you and didnt want too.. but the doctors said gentle is fine ..... eventually i trusted them.. we need to remember our DH matters too right ! its hard i know! ive been consumed with all things pregnancy and especially with this lake ive wrapped myself up in cotton wool... and thats fine BUT i need to remember lovely DH is sitting on the sidelines watching all this happen with no way to help... ive tried making more of an effort to realise that this week..

i havent had the "hot" feeling... but perhaps thats what it is!? ill have alot more info for you tomorrow

Let me know how your scan goes.

We haven't BD since finding out I have the lakes which was last week. Prior to that it was probably 3times a week (more now then when we were ttc lol) but now I'm to scared. Not that DH has come looking for it either. I haven't had any bleeding what so ever (except for a pink thing in the 1st trimester)

I'm planning in quitting my 2nd job a few days before Christmas and I'll keep my main job as long as possible. I work in a maternity unit as a middy so if anything does go wrong atleast I'm already in the right place. Safer there then at home lol.

Is this baby no1 for you?

There are only a few days between us. Im 19+6 now. Really looking forward to tomorrow and hitting the big 20 mark. That hot feeling last night was really hot. Don't know if thats what it is or not.
