    Round ligament pains?

    Hi all,

I was just wondering what round ligament pains (if you've had them) feel like for you. Everywhere I read about them being sharp pains on either side of your stomach, but that's not how they feel for me. I'm hoping what I'm feeling is just my round ligaments stretching and not something else. For me, I get a dull but noticable soreness/discomfort in my lower abdomen just above my pubic area (but more internal) and in the centre. I tend to notice it more if I've been more active, e.g. after a long walk or like yesterday when I was packing all day. I also notice it more when I change from sitting to standing (though not all the time) and when I'm putting on my pants - I think it has something to do with the bending and the raising a leg.

Has anyone else experienced this? Does it feel like this for you? Just wanting to know cause none of my friends have been pregnant and my mum can't remember if she felt that or not.

From what I have been experiencing mine are sharp, stabbing pains on the inside of my hips which occur when I do something suddenly like sneeze, cough, pass wind, or get up too quickly. It doesn't feel like what you are describing. If your pain is in your groin and pubic area it could be Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction (SPD) and I would probably see a doctor about it.

    Hi Sterla,

have a read of this Pelvic pain (SPD)

From what I can read it kinda sounds like Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction..See I had similar oain but on my lower back so thought I would have a look on the net...It appears I suffer pelvic girdle pain and it has been sore for ages (since week 7-8) for me, it feels like I have pulled a muscle in my right hand bumcheek and that everytime I twist or bend down/get up without bending my knees considerably, it hurts like hell...I have been seeing an osteopath and it has helped me heaps but I am resigned to the fact that it will hurt and be there all thoughout my pg..On the plus side though, my yoga teacher and osteo have shown me how to move without moving my pelvis and it is definately a lot more bearable now. I have to keep my pelvis "locked" as much as possible. PM me if you want more info.

In the meantine, hope its only temporary for you ...Maybe have a chat to your midwife, gp, etc... and good luck

Thanks for replies. I've been having a look around on net about SPD, and that may be what it is. It seems to to fit a bit better than round ligament pains. The 'pain' is very, very mild - more a discomfort than a pain, and doesn't occur too often, only after a particularly active day. I'll talk to the midwives about it next time I'm in.
From the sounds of it, SPD is pretty common, just a bit painful and uncomfortable. I'll find out what I can do to limit discomfort when I talk to the midwives.
Thanks for your replies - I had no idea this condition existed.

It's easy to self-diagnose yourself so best to see your GP/OB and talk to them about it if concerned.

I've had the last 2 days stretching and like mild period pain cramps in my abdomen but i'd say it's just my uterus stretching and the ligaments/muscles being shifted and stretched, all totally normal..... it's not painfu but just uncomfortable at times and comes and goes. But again, i've been told this is just normal and everything stretching as bubs is growing ALOT!

I agree, it doesnt sound like round ligament pain. I saw my OB about some really sharp pains and he diagnosed round ligament pain, which is on both side.....really hurts!!

I hope you find out what the pain is soon!
