    Ultrasound Worry!!!!!!

I had my ultra sound done a week or so ago, got my results back yesterday when i was at the hospital for my appointment. The Dr did not seemed worried and just said that we would have to keep an eye on it!! Did not book me in for another u/s or anything. As you do as a mother i am worried and i am going to demand another u/s when i go back in four weeks. The report was as follows.

Foetal anatomy apperared satifactory. However the left renal pelvis was a little prominent. This can be reassessed on a follow up ultrasound.

Everything else was fine, but has anyone else had this with any of their pregnancies?

    What does it mean?

i am a little worried as i had to have an operation when i was 5 as my valve on my kidney was not working at all. Does this have something to do with this???

I hope everything will be ok, none of my other babies had this!!!!

    Thanks

Sorry I'm not much help but I just wanted to say that if the Dr wasn't too concerned then hopefully that is an indication that this is something that is likely to resolve itself. I would definately be asking for a follow-up ultrasound in a month or so though for peace of mind, and make sure you mention your kidney issues at your next appointment.
Hope everything is okay for your bubs.
    Please do keep us posted.

If you want, I can find out from the sonographers at my mums work and get back to you. Mum works at an imaging place here.

    Not a bother at all
I would think if the dr wasn't concerned then there wouldn't be anything to be concerned about. Do you know when the follow-up ultrasound would be?

    Oh hun

Sorry that your Dr wasn't very forthcoming on this one.

My understanding (I had a friend who had a similar thing turn up on her 20wk scan) is that because the kidneys are still so small at this stage (I am assuming that it was your 20wk scan) they need to let them grow a fair bit more until they can actually see what is going on.

From memory she had to wait until about 34 weeks to have a follow up scan and was told that in most cases everything is fine (which it was in hers). Also from memory the kidneys start to do a lot of fluid processing at about 36 weeks so they scan before that.

Hope that this does a little to settle your mind. Maybe your Dr wasn't too concerned because they often fix themselves and also there isn't much that can be done for a while anyway (doesn't make the wait any easier I know)
