    Anyone had Bacterial Vaginosis?

So, i am 31 weeks tomoro. I have had a few bouts of very minor spotting in the last few weeks and since the last one (last week) i have noticed increased discharge. No itching, no soreness, no smell but maybe a little more yellow than usual as i have always had increased cm when pregnant! So mentioned to midwife today and she siad she would do a swab and OMG, it hurt sooo much. She was only using a cotton bud swab thing and only doing a lower vaginal swab so she pulled the light over to have a look and siad i am red, raw "in there". I of course said yes i figure that as it feels like you are using a razor blade. We have not been DTD because of spotting and she siad it doesn;t seem to be presenting as thrush, also took a urine sample and the dip test was fine. Swab will take 3-4 days to come back, so just after any feedback as until she was "in there" i have had no symptoms as such, wondering if this is common for something such as BV? TIA

By BV do you mean Bacterial Vaginosis? If so I had it for many months and it does tend to reoccur if I am run down but I was fortunate not to have it during pregnancy. I did spot for months with it. The spotting was coming from the skin (peri etc) the skin was so fragile just a wipe with dunny paper, towel etc would start it bleeding. I'll wait for you to confirm that you mean bacterial vaginosis before I go into a spill about it.

You need to get onto probiotics full-time... check out the video at the end of this article, he's an expert in BV & thrush

    https://www.bellybelly.com.au/pregna...rone-to-thrush

He discovered the two probiotics which target this area specifically. He makes a product which you can get from OS, but Blackmores make one now too, something to do with female health and is in a pink box in their pregnancy/babies section.

Was thinking further on this. Might be worth doing the garlic thing too (vaginally as well as upping it in your diet), because garlic is anti bacterial as well as anti fungal. I'd also swap your oils for coconut oil, as it has those properties too. Should give the bacteria a full on assault combining all these suggestions and will be good for bubba too.

I had BV last year on and off for most of the year. It was the worst year ever I had never heard of it until last year when I went to the GP. Not sure if BV when pregnant is different, but O\I do remember the itch before anything else. I had to take an antibiotic and then maintained a healthy vagina by taking inner health plus. Oh I also started using condoms with DH because semen is alkaline and will throw the PH level off down 'there'.

Yep, I did - it was picked up at 24 weeks and came back but is finally gone. Mine was asymptomatic, except for increased discharge which was normally for me last pregnancy so i didn't think anything of it. I went to the hospital with a pinkish fluid leak, and they found I had a slow leak and swabs came back positive for BV (from the bacteria Gardnerella vaginalis) which was causing the leak. They were quite concerned, had me on clindamycin, I've been drinking a Yakult every day since then (lucky I love it!) and regular swab tests as it can cause pPPROM, and they were also worried about an infection in the amniotic fluid or irritation around the membranes because of the leak I had.
Finally got the all clear (getting rid of it was easy, stopping it from coming back was HARD, you have to get the 'perfect balance' right in the vagina to prevent the growth of 'bd bacteria, and in pregnancy with so many different changes it can be hard, and difficult again after antibiotics). I agree with the garlic inserted too, although found the smell really off-putting!

Just a side note on that to be aware of - Yakult has alot of sugar and isn't as potent as specialised probiotics. It only has one strain of probiotic (there are loads) and all have specific actions. The product I mentioned above contains two probiotics found to act on vaginal health. Many added to foods and products just act on the gut, and you can never be certain of potency you are getting that way. The video clip I recommended explains it all.

Oh, I had no idea about the Yakult! The midwife suggested it, I didn't research any others. Will have to have a look, never too late to have a healthy vagina! lol

You can but it's not the most effective. Kelly's sounds like a good one to try, or if you can find it Orthoplex Multiflora is good

Never too late to start at all - the guy in the video clip about BV & thrush says his wife has it daily for great reproductive health, bacteria speaking. Its a great idea, our diets are crap these days and not good bacteria or immune friendly! Get onto it ladies for a happy vagina Hehe

Sorry for bad engrish, on my iPhone!
