Why do they get hic cups???

Hi All :-)
Well the question is as simple as the title.... why do the little tackers get the hicups??
I know they are normal and stuff but I always get a little bit worried when she does... being she is floating in water and stuff! hehe..

Any ideas would lovely to hear

are you talking "inside the stomach" hiccups?

My 2nd baby only had hiccups invitro (?) - on one occassion that I noticed... but now that she's out - she hiccups all the time!

My parents say it's when the baby is 'growing'...
Another person told me it's when they are tired.
Tiredness seems to be the case for both of my children... as they always get hiccups when they were about to go to sleep....

I don't know the actual reason why/how they get hiccups though...

I am 31 weeks and she seems to be getting them about 2 or more times a day... I guess i am just a little worried that maybe I am doing something I shouldnt.... I am getting really run down myself... having to run after monkey boy and still working 3 days a week for 11 hours (includes travel)

I didn't know they were hiccups until someone described theirs to me...
It's like tiny little rhythmic kicks or pushes.
Bub had them at 3am last night!

it's like a constant little kick... you normally feel your stomach rise slightly - but it doesn't hurt. You would normally notice it when you are relaxing or lying down.

My #1 used to hiccup all the time - and he came out 4kg ~ 9lb !!
#2 didn't hiccup much - although she was a decent size 3.4kg ~ 7.8lb

I can relate to what you are going through Kirstie... In my last 8 weeks of pregnancy - I sold our house, purchased/moved into another, renovated the new house, sold my business, and also had a toddler to run after. I asked my ob if tiling/grouting a floor at 37 weeks could bring on labour - and he said no...

I hope they are not related to growth spurts! I am 41 weeks and baby hiccups a couple of times each day still!

It is from bubs swallowing the fluid. It is normal and it shows that bubs is practicing swallowing. I first noticed it when I was having a ctg scan and the midwife said that she could hear bubs hiccuping. Now I know what it is I feel it all the time. It is like a constant little kick.

My understanding is they hiccup when they have swallowed amniotic fluid... totally normal and believed to be a sign of health. I think they are just practising for when they breathe out in the wide world!

I heard it was from swallowing amniotic fluid aswell. All of mine got the hiccups and #4 is at it already, i love the feeling it's quite bizarre...

Exactly what Smudge said. It is a sign of health and that bubs is practicing the swallowing and breathing reflex.

I'm 37 weeks and my bubs gets them about twice a day usually at night .....

glad its not growth spurt realted otherwise i am growing a giant baby too!!!!
bubs get hiccups 2 to 3 times a day - especilally after wizz fizz!!

DD used to get them all the time I noticed in the last 10 weeks but I didnt know what caused them.
