Hi everyone,
Just confused about putting the baby to sleep in a cot just with a fitted sheet or do i use the flat sheet as well? Do I use a blanket or quilt? just a bit concerned about the dangers of cot death etc. I have heard many different things, as some people just use a fitted sheet and wrap the baby, also does this apply for the bassinette as well?
It is hard to know what to do, isn't it!!?? We had a cot for ds, so just had a fitted sheet on that. Then he was wrapped snuggly in a bunny rug, his feet placed at the bottom of the cot, and then a sheet or thin blanket tucket in tightly at the bottom and sides of the cot and over him. Basically so he couldn't wriggle down under the blankets.
Why don't you have a look at the sids website, I would imagine they would have their recommendations on there?
i think it really depends on how the individual baby feels comfy. DS didn't seem to like being wrapped from the word go, so we never did wrap him. He slept in the cot straight away. We used a fitted sheet on the bottom, on top we used flat sheet then cotton thermal blanket doubled over then polar fleece blanket doubled over. We added or took away blankets as we needed. HTH. Goodluck with bub
We just had a fitted sheet in Aidyn's cot... nothing else. For the first 6 weeks he was wrapped and we would just pop him down like that, and then after that he went straight into a grobag... so no need for top sheets or blankets.
Usually 2 flanellette bunny rugs, and a thicker fleece bunny rug over the top - depending on the weather. But by the time winter set in properly he had his grobag.
We had My son in a basinette for about 7 weeks , we would wrap him in a muslen wrap and put a blanket over the top and tuck it in the sides.
With the cot we did thet same thing , we had just a fitted sheet then wrapped him and put him at the end of the cot then tucket a blanket around him in the bottom and the sides.
As far as SIDS goes i think they just recomend a fitted sheet.
The only decent tip I got from my MIL was to buy single bed sheets and fold them in half. Mitch has been out of a cot for a while and in a big bed - it certainly saved lots of $$$!
